New Music Releases Thread

I'm not sure of the genre but I'm pretty sure that this is an early publicity photo of Kissing the Anus of a Black Cat.

listened to a few today

bdrmm is top class, sounds like DIIV
A.A Williams is magnificent, albeit “fearless” is fearsome
Dream Wife is good fun indie guitar pop
Holy Wave are new to me, psych pop stuff. Will listen again
Keleketla! are 100% @Arkle
Cuddle Magic have the worst name in history and are alright if hardly life changing

I may choose to miss Cuddle Magic then. Between work stuff, catching up with old music and, TBH, mostly dealing with the death of a beloved pet, I've not got round to listening to anything new yet. As far as I know, Keleketla! are Coldcut gone African (I almost said Coldplay gone African, which would be awful).

bdrmm is very good, keleketla! excellent, holy wave - shite, dream wife canny but not stunning.

So, the new stuff I've been listening to over the weekend:

Hedvig Mollestad - I'm not sure how here solo stuff differs from her work with her trio. This is maybe a bit jazzier than the trio but still rocks.
Keleketla! - essentially Coldcut plus a rolling cast of musicians. Reminiscent of a more electronic Africa Express. Very good!
AA Williams - quite dark and doomy. She comes from a classical background, I believe. Excellent!
bdrmm - excellent, very dreamy/shoegazey!
Paul Weller - quite a mellow album. SOme is quite experimental, parts hail back to The Style Council. Decent.
Holy Wave - I really like this. Psychpop, goes a bit motorik in places. Sounds like a very good summer album!
Dream Wife - a really enjoyable album of guitar pop. Not sure it has the hit after hit quality of their debut but may have more depth.
Mulatu Astatke & Black Jesus Experience - world jazz basically. Mulatu Astatke is considered to be the king of Ethiopian jazz, Black Jesus Experience are a multi-national Australia based band (who take Ethio-jazz as their starting point). It's all very enjoyable!

Album of the week: probably bdrmm but Kelektla!, AA Williams, Holy Wave and Dream Wife aren't far behind.

Class. Much prefer when people put a tiny description of the album along with the name. Too many to listen to so helps target the ones that I fancy.

Still got that Sei Still album on repeat

Wares - "Survival" album from April. Disclaimer - Search function says it's not been brought up. Just listened to it a couple of times and I think it's got some very decent bits, if a little patchy at times. Canadian indie - they cite Sonic Youth, New Pornographers, Neko Case, and the album has supposedly been likened to early Titus A / Daydream Nation era Sonic Youth...it bounces around quite nicely from laid-back lo-fi/shoegazey, to loud guitar fuzzy stuff, to catchy synthy-driven guitar pop. There's a couple of slower mellow bits as well. Not bad at all imho.
