F1 2021

I presume there’s too much of a curve, or the speed into the hairpin or something else?
There is also the effect of the tunnel roof. It plays havoc with the cars, and is a reason you only have small bridges over tracks now, certainly at low levels.

Monaco is as always the exception to the rule.
.
In other news, the Mercedes debrief is online, they certainly try to deflect away from the Bottas question.

Jean marie Balestre - one of the very few humans I really hated.

Check out some of the old driver pre race meetings he was unbelievable as the head of the FIA.

He hated Ayrton.

Senna was my favourite driver when I was a teenager, but then I knew nothing of his personality back then. After seeing documentaries and footage of interviews, I would hate him if he was a top young driver today. All that "I can drive how I like and it'll be fine because God won't let me crash" stuff he used to come out with is f***ing frightening.

People that religious should be banned from any career or pastime in which other people could be harmed by their actions, IMO.

does it really add much? was it was banned more of costs\safety than 'entertainment'? personally never thought it did much other than making the discussion around 'tactics' longer to cover less action on track?

Safety iirc. There were a number of incidents (including a particularly bad one in 1994 during a Jos Verstappen pitstop for Benetton, see image below) where refuelling went wrong. It had to change.

One of the interesting things I learned from his interview with Brundle this weekend was that Hamilton only does 20-30 laps in the simulator every year. He also doesn't bother walking the track - "waste of energy". This seems to pale into comparison with the rest of the top drivers, in particular Verstappen who gave the impression he lived in the simulator during lockdown last year.

Clearly, there's other areas he works extremely hard at, but at times it seems like he's a total anomaly. I remember during the Vettel and Schumacher years of dominance, there was this idea that they were more dedicated and more advanced in terms of their preparation than anyone else. With Hamilton, he seems more like a throwback.
Is the simulator just a much more expensive version of the home set up that the Esports use?

As the younger drivers have all been bought up on these as it brings in so much money Hamilton could be the last of the F1 drivers who don't really use them.

Say what you want about Hamilton but there’s not another driver currently on the grid who could do what he does week in week out.

Aye his cars been the best for a while now but he’s just absolutely phenomenal at what he does. I think sometimes people just look too much at the car and don’t quite give him the credit he deserves, particularly those who don’t watch f1 or a lot of it.

Anyone else but Lewis in that Mercedes this season and I think Max would be flying away with the drivers championship. Obviously he can still take it but I don’t think he’s got that bit extra Lewis can bring when it really matters.

I’m really enjoying this season so far though. Been miles more competitive. Lewis is having to work hard for the points.
Lewis would’ve won all 4 races this season in the RBR quite easily

This ^
I’d also say that the Ferrari in 2017,18 and half of 19 was the fastest car (through cheating), -and IMO Lewis would have won those two Championships with that car. He out raced Vettel on the track and mentally, and I think he’ll do the same with Max, but would win the championship in that Red Bull.

I agree, Lewis in that Red bull would still be where he is. Tbh, I think the red bull actually looks the better car this season which is what’s making Lewis leading so impressive.

Proper grinds on me people who say anyone could win in said car. Load of nonsense. It helps absolutely but there’s a lot more to being a top driver than having a good car.

There is a story of Senna driving a sunbeam Talbot around country roads going to see his fellow countryman mauricio G race at a track miles away and he did the old hand of god thing to his passenger Denis Rushden.

They’d been accused of tampering with the fuel flow on that anarl...

Yes & No... claim thru some fluid dynamic routines they can virtually test new components before they get anywhere near a physical car.
.

Alfa testing at Barca this week with the 18-inch wheels... looks like wheel covers are coming back for ‘22...

Yeah, wheel covers are back - they make the air less turbulent. Which is what Brawn is going for in the new regs.

although I can’t help thinking this is a smokescreen for something else they spotted
nah, ferrari arent involved...

Didn't the Williams team piss off Adrian Newey with their treatment of Damon Hill or am I misremembering?
in his book, newey says it wasnt that they sacked hill but that they sacked hill without telling him... he felt that by that time he was senior enough in the team to be consulted and he'd had conversations with patrick head about team matters etc, he might have said he wanted them to keep hill or head agreed but then frank went off and signed frentzen without informing him. in the book he says it was more the straw the broke the camels back so to say and had been building over a season or three.

Cheers marra, fancy thinking Frentzen was a better option than Hill.
Hill would have been a double world champ if the FIA had any balls and sanctioned Schumacher for deliberately driving into Hill.
