Easyjet from Newcastle - stopped ?

About 10 years ago I used to regularly fly EasyJet from Stansted to Ponteland Airport for matchday weekends. FInish work early on a Friday, few beers at Spoons at Stansted, quick flight up north, Friday night out, home match on Saturday, fly back Sunday morning. It was cheaper than driving or taking the train.

Quick update:

Rang Easyjet today regarding the flights we have booked with them from Newcastle to Faro for June next year. After some humming and hawing, they eventually confirmed that EJ will not be flying that route from Newcastle any more.

When we asked what were the options we were told we would have to wait until next year to see what alternative flights could be offered. Told them that wasn't good enough as we needed to know now as we have accommodation booked that is non-refundable (transferred from earlier this year).

They eventually agreed to refund our money.

Now we're looking at flights with Ryanair or Jet2, not necessarily from Newcastle, but they're all at least 50% more than what we had originally paid EJ, some of them more than double.

It'll be a big loss to Newcastle airport if EJ abandon them completely - some of those routes were extremely popular. It'll also mean that NE travelers will effectively be held to ransom by the remaining airlines who can charge what they want for the convenience of flying from a local airport.

What a f@@king mess.

I just wonder if Teesside are poaching one of the budget airlines? They have to be thinking about it....
Let's hope so .

You might still be ok . They just don't have a clue what they're going to be doing next year . we've just had our return flight cancelled for the 25th of October . Dont give a toss really, but I would like to get our lass sent back . This place is lifting with tidy owld blart .

Got a hotel booked in Portugal for Easter. As you say, prices are up, plus the return flight times aren’t great either and are making a weekend away a bit pointless.

Get on the phone to them and don't take no for an answer when you ask for a refund - ask them if they can guarantee your flights will be going ahead and if not (which will be the case because they're no longer flying Newcastle to Faro) ask to speak to a Supervisor. You should get your refund.

Jet2 weren't cheap when we checked - more than double what we'd paid EJ.

We're now looking at flying from Liverpool or Manchester with Ryanair. Or even out with one airline and back with another. It's a right f@@king clart on.

At least with Jet2 they refund quicker, I will be fuming if EJ then back track. However read a article at the weekend saying EJ where hanging by a thread, dare say the whole industry is in these times.

Why didnt you transfer Easyjet flight to manchester, edinburgh wherever? Chesper than getting refund and rebooking with someone else.
Didn't want to take the risk that they might go under plus they told us they couldn't offer us anything for our dates until next year.

Basically didn't like the idea of them hanging onto our money until then with no guarantee of any flights at the end of it.

My missus is in travel and has heard whispers that don't bode well.

I’ve managed to get a refund from EasyJet for my flights that were originally for May 2020. I took a voucher rather than refund when the flight was cancelled but got a refund now that they’re stopping all flights. Took a bit of doing, they must have a script to go through on the phone first

Came back from Portugal on Monday. Got an email 10 mins from the airport saying our flight was cancelled. Got booked on a one to Leeds four hours later then a bus up to Newcastle where me car was. Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle all cancelled and put on the Leeds flight.
Two weeks quarantine now, coming from a country which has a far lower rate than we do. It’s bollocks.
Sent jet2 an email to complain, got one back saying they’ll reply to me within 12 weeks. Aye. Cheers.
