Running Thread 2018

cheers mate , told you dominic shaw would win it....

@D.A how come liam taylor's left the strollers ? he came about 5th

IF you use a garmin post on here what distance you clock, heard a few saying the course was long last year but find that hard to believe this day and age, meant to be a fast one so good luck

my garmin had it at 5:03 miles which with all weaving about would be spot on.

Can anyone recommend a sweat resistant sunscreen (that is actually sweat resistant not just claims to be)

I was still wearing long sleeves a fortnight ago so my skin is still pretty pale. Going to be out for 3+ hours tomorrow & in previous years have sweated anything I've tried off within an hour.

Did 14km in 1 hour 24mins (6mins/km) this morning, really pleased with that as usually the heat ruins me. Last couple month been averaging 5:30 / km so not too much worse. Hoping to break 2hrs for half marathon this year but with the heat now here to stay I'm not sure if it's possible (pb is 2:08), but we'll see.

Garmin read 3.15 miles so thats close enough for me.
At least it wasnt 5 mile :)
Nice route, slight gradient on the 1st mile but pretty much flat and fast
What time do you expect to get?
Came in at 23.45 on watch. Wanted under 24 so i'm happy...ish. Plenty room for improvement.
How was the marathon ?

Awful. I'm no good with heat. Took the first half steady in 1:36 - wanted 1:35, tried a mile at race pace and realised it was a bad idea. Wanted sub 3:10, finished with 3:25. The most important thing was to myself ok. I've never seen so many people flake so early in a marathon.

Only just discovered this thread, didn't even know there was a diet and exercise forum!

Well done to any who did London at the weekend.

I'm aiming for sub 19min 5km, sub 40min 10km and sub 90min half over the next couple of months.

Got Birmingham 10k and Leeds half lined up to attempt the two longer distances, then will just have a crack at a parkrun near me that's meant to be a fairly speedy course.

Great effort in those conditions Dan

My half marathon curse has struck again. Didn't bother mentioning that I was doing the Sunderland Half as I've dropped out twice previously, once through a knee injury and once through ending up in hospital.
Bit behind schedule with training but did ten miles last week so know I could get round if I continued my training. Foot has flared up this week to the point where I can't walk. Been to walk in centre this morning and got inflamed joint probably caused by the running. Got Codeine for the pain and got to rest totally for a week. Nothing broken which was my main worry and still a chance I'll be able to get training again next week but could have done without it.
Been to doctor's today and they think it is gout. Good news is that it should clear up in a couple of days with treatment. Bad news is that I'm probably going to shit myself inside out over them two days.
Realistically it means I'm going to have missed two weeks training at a crucial point but hopefully I'll be back out at the weekend and at least getting a few miles in.
Going to have to readjust my expectations once again and just aim to get round the course with as little walking as possible but getting to the start line is going to be a big bonus compared to what I thought during the week.
Frustrating that I'm once again not going to be properly prepared for a race but I will be chuffed if I can get round.

Hope it clears up quick!

Aye, loved them. Made cheaply and the tread started to come off so sent them back. .
mixed review then

I need some neutral cushioned reasonably light trainers , seen a few older runners using hoka although when see in shop they look mega bulky, hoka are a 4mm drop so bit wary because of achilles n calf load , never tried Nike before and know the Pegasus has been going for donkeys years as an everyday cushioned trainer

Yeah, got some Clifton 4s earlier in year mate, obviously only running shorter runs, took a bit getting used to, but like them now.

Brooks Running

Try that fletch

Anybody tried Hokas for running
Yeah had original cliftons and got some clifton 4's now use them for all my long runs. Have got some of the Hupanas for quicker runs but only but 30 miles on them so not sure how good they are. They are light even if they look bulky, lighter than the brooks I have got which I dislike. Make sure get a half size bigger if you get them though.

MasterChef contestant dies in marathon

News from yesterday that someone sadly dies during yesterdays marathon, was one of the semi finalists of the last masterchef professionals.

Kinda was expecting it with the conditions, people trying to run the same pace in the heat utting their heart rate way up along with the advice to drink more water suspected a few people would end up drinking too much which way more dangerouse than not getting enough.

Well done to all did London this weekend and any others who've been up to something recently.

Dislocated my knee playing football yesterday. Laid up in massive amounts of pain. Knee specialist tomorrow to see how bad the damage is. What ever it is , it's going to mess with my Kielder marathon plans. Gutted
