NUFC/Sportswashing - Summer 2022

Binxy man, we've been over this, the Saudi bid was the only show in town. Had the other groups had a bid accepted and the Saudis weren't around there'd have been 100k signatures trying to get that one through and all.
There wouldn't have been Fish. You're talking bollocks. They had meeting in the Labour club to discuss the reaction to them when it first got mooted & 97% voted in favour.

I guess I grew out of hating you lot in my teens. Of course I want your team to languish in the lower leagues, get beaten by Luton, have players take the piss like Rodwell did, and all that. But I don't hate you all. You just support a different football team. It'd be like hating someone who aren't fans of the bands I am. It's just a bit childish, isn't it?

Unfortunately its not just football team stuff. Theres a really nasty streak from both sides towards the others City/area. I feel like it comes more from you lot towards us though (could just be bias mind).

That’s me too. I guess moving away from the area and also having very good friends who support Newcastle helped. When my mate took his Bairns to their first ever nufc game I was actually pleased that nufc won for them.
I love the craic with them.
However that’s all stopped now as nufc are a disgusting sportswashed team who have a fascist dictator owning them.
It’s sad like, but we don’t have banter about football anymore

OK if you say so.

If there was multiple bids on the table there's only one set the fans would have wanted.

You know it and everyone knows it.
What is it about people just 30 miles North from Sunderland who work similar jobs, go to similar pubs, drink similar beer, eat similar food, watch similar tv, listen to similar music that would make them choose to be owned by a barbaric regime, rather than someone else? Are you so sure those that people, who are similar in every regard aside from the team they support, are so keen on the Saudis above all others?

Give your head a shake man, you're a grown up.

Cant have banter with them. Simply " your owners are f***ing vile" and end of conversation.
The current crop of gravy gobblers aren’t here for footy bants or taking about the North East.

They’re here to distract from the very real fact their club’s been bought by a “murderous regime” (not my words, Chi Onwurah’s) to change the conversation about many human rights abuses too numerous to mention here.

Do you live in a cave?

Because they might just spend a bit more than someone else. And that completely sells it (despite the horrendous regime and sportswashing)

No, I'm just not so blinded by partisan rivalry that I'll ignore reality.

If the Mexicans had bought us and done exactly the same things, you'd be desperately tying yourself in knots to say how awful they are as well.

Saudis are awful, but Ashley accepted their bid and their bid alone, the PL waited until the broadcasting theft was sorted, the FA didn't give a toss and the UK Government were happy as Larry to accept more Saudi cash. So... I guess your issue should be with them, really? Oh and the dozen or so dickheads in tea towels, fuck those lads.

Nobody’s tying themselves into knots here. You literally say “Saudis are awful” in the next breath.

ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND that's ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND begged to have them knowing full well what they are, so don't patronise me with that shite.

Howay then, show us these thousands of tea towel wearing flag waving Saudi fans then.

Tbf, I accept it's a handful (raising the flag), but since the takeover, I've been to plenty of gigs in Newcastle and nights out around the town, and witnessed plenty waving the Saudi flag. Again, I accept that Newcastle fans probably couldn't have done anything to stop the takeover, even if they wanted to, however, the fact there is absolutely zero calling out your new owners for there abuses in Saudi, is where things are wrong, your gay supporters group have even rolled over and not said a word, the same community is literally killed by the same people who own your club, for being themselves - a lot of your supporters/extreme right wing nutjobs, will all say "it's there country, respect there rules" - no. Call it out for what it is, inhumane, disgusting treatment of human beings. Yes, the UK Government is happy to accept there cash, again though, call it out, in this country you're lucky enough to have a vote every 4 years, use it, vote for the parties that want to stop trade with dictatorships. Don't just accept things with whataboutery.

Stop rolling over and accepting Sportswashing, raise awareness, although unlikely, be a pathway for your owners to change. Most Sunderland accept that the takeover has happened, but what most Sunderland fans despise seeing, is Newcastle fans, people of the North East, celebrating a regime known for murder, torture and damn right disgusting treatment of there own people. The North East of England is better than that in general. Literally makes my skin crawl seeing that flag held aloft around Newcastle.

They are awful and shouldn't own any football club. But they do. UAE shouldn't own a football club, but they do. Qatar shouldn't own a football club, but they do.

I haven't seen any Newcastle fan defend their regime on here. I've seen Newcastle fans explain, with a great deal of patience, that Newcastle fans aren't supporting Saudi Arabia by continuing to support the club they've supported their whole life and will continue to support after the Saudis are gone.

Hell, a new government might see the Saudis booted out.

For what it's worth I agree that for me, the United in Pride group let themselves down with their stance and statement. However, as a straight man it's not really my place to tell a minority groups how they should make or take their position.

I've not met a single fan who're celebrating that regime. You're mental if you think the pervading opinion among Newcastle fans is that that regime is worth celebrating. I've seen Newcastle fans on here call out that regime, I know I have.

Could there be more public condemnation? Sure. I'd be curious if, once the buzz of the takeover dies down, there are anti-Saudi banners held up by groups amongst NUFC fans.

I hope there are.

100k of your fans signed a petition asking the government to let the Saudis buy you.

That's 100k who supports and endorses the Saudis.
