New Music Releases Thread

Right then, other than UNKLE, mentioned above, my weekend/Monday listening has included:

Ohtis - pretty marvellous this! Gentle, soft voiced Americana with a nose for a good chorus!
Sunwatchers - utterly skronkin' psych-prog-jazz. Exceptional!
Orvile Peck - marvellously voiced mask wearing country crooner. Also gets an exclamation mark!
Mdou Moctar - very, very good! Desert rock or desert blues, as mentioned by @ned_werby earlier.
Lawrence Arabia - basically a singles collection, I guess. Kiwi bloke doing Magnetic Fields/Jens Lekman style pop. Well worth a listen! I think these were 12 tracks released in 12 months year.
FACS - doomy post-punk from Chicago. Pretty good...
Alex Rex - second solo album from the drummer/leader of Trembling Bells. Essentially written about the sudden, expected death of his younger brother so lyrically not always happy but a very, very good album.
Son Volt - I'll agree with @Mickdundee on this one. Enjoyable enough Americana but nothing groundbreaking.
Edwyn Collins - pretty much ace! Simple pop songs played well. One of his best solo albums...
Garcia Peoples - upbeat and quite poppy psychedelic rock. Worth checking out!
White Denim - it's good, it's, in fact very good. However, if you played me all nine of their albums in random order, I'd struggle to tell you which album is which or the order they were released in.

Got a few more things planned for listening. The Beth Gibbons/Polish orchestra thing next...

Have you tried the sons of kemet album, I think they share members. It's slighly less hipster wank but amusing tuba action

They do indeed share members (well, member), Shabaka Hutchings in in both. He used to be in Melt Yourself Down as well (as did another of Sones of Kemet) - they're sort of North African jazz-punk, if that makes sense... tremendous live! Anyway, the two of them left MYD when Sons of Kemet became pretty big.

I can imagine them being awesome live. I'll give myd a go

Thanks for that, some stuff to check out

I enjoyed Beth Gibbons

I enjoyed Beth Gibbons

Yeah, gave that a listen at work. Obviously, not my normal thing but very enjoyable. The Mary Lattimore & Mac McCaughan album is very good also, particularly if ambient harp/synth duets are your thing. I'd file the Swazi Gold EP under promising. West Coast Aussies now based in Melbourne. The single, 'Shapeshifting', is the best thing on it. From a folkie point of view, "The Hare's Lament" by Ye Vagabonds is very lovely indeed.

@The Lonious Monk have you been watching the Iggy Pop produced Punk docu-series that’s been on in the USA the last few weeks? My mate “sourced it” for his private Plex server and it’s been really good - part 1 was MC5/Stooges/New York Dolls/Ramones; part 2 Sex pistols/Clash/Danmed/Slits; Part 3 Black Flag/Minor Threat/DOA/DK; Part 4 was Nirvana/L7/Bikini Kill/Bad Religion/NOFX/Pennywise/Offspring/Green Day

Definitely worth catching it if you can.

I’ve added quite a lot to my music library for when I’m between new releases.

No worries, I remember you saying you were into punk and I really enjoyed it.

It’s this

It’s completely interview based and the interviewee list reads like a “who’s who” of Punk: Iggy, Wayne Kramer, Sylvain Sylvain, Marky Ramone, Johnny Rotten, Dave Vanian, the drummer from The Clash whose name escapes me, Joan Jett, Ian McKaye, Hank, Daryl Jennifer, Joey Shitbag, Kathleen Hanna, Donita Sparks, Fat Mike, Brett Gurewitz, Jim Lindberg, Noodles, Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Ness, Dave Grohl, Flea, Duff McKagan

ANother week, another set of releases. This week, we have albums from Bella Novella, Bryce Dessner, Circa Waves, Don Felder, Idlewild, Ionna Gika, Jai Wolf, Khalid, Lee Fields & the Expressions, Molly Tuttle, Periphery, Priests, PUP, Reba McEntire, Sara Bareilles, Sego, The Drums, Weyes Blood, WH Lung, Shana Cleveland, Proper Ornaments, Rozi Plain, Daniel O'Sullivan, Grup Sez & Ethnique Punch, Rose Elinor Dougall and Cowboy Flying Saucer.

Topper Headon is the drummer from The Clash.

Wasn’t him, ‘‘twas the original drummer. Terry Chimes, I’ve just remembered (thanks to Wiki)

Idlewild and, erm, Sara Bareilles (I love a bit of piano pop) for me this week. Anything else there I might like? I’ve seen a lot of mention of WH Lung on here so might be worth a go.

Ah, Terry Chimes makes sense... WH Lung are very good. A bit Krautrock, I guess. Singer reminds me of the bloke from Killing Joke (Jaz Coleman?). Weyes Blood is very good. Started out as psych-folk but has moved a bit more mainstream whilst keeping that sound.

WH Lung, Bryce Dessner, Circa Waves, Priests and Weyes Blood for me

Mostly them for me also. Molly Tuttle gets my folky bells jingling and the Shana Cleveland album has good reviews, as does Rozi Plain. Basically everything in the list from Weyes Blood on has some degree of interest for me.

Well, I missed the new Martha album. Thanks to @James for the reminder...

I'll be picking up The Proper Ornaments at some point. Saw them support TOY at the cluny a few years back and really like their sound.

Been listening to punk ever since I was young. It's on Epix or something like that. I was looking into it yesterday and it looks really good. Much appreciate it!
