New Ibibio Sound Machine is very good on first listen. Really infectious.
Look forward to seeing them at all points east festival.

A bit quiet for new stuff again this week. Albums from Benjamin Francis Leftwich, Karen O & Dangermouse, Matmos, Snarky Puppy, Stephen Malkmus, Steve Adamyk Band, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Cinematic Orchestra, The Faint, Tim O'Brien Band, Todd Snider, David Ian Roberts, The Comet Is Coming, Howe Gelb, Finn Andrews and The Loads I've Undoubtedly Missed Band.

Malkmus and The Comet Is Coming are two obvious standouts for me...

Had mixed reviews but I think that one is excellent.

Any London based posters, would recommend the podcast Crush Club. An hour of three lads recommending gigs (mostly free or under a tenner) in London. They play a track from each band as well which is canny.

They do two a month looking at the following two weeks.

Nilufer Yanya - it’s class
Lambchop - it’s pleasant enough, but I’ve got to admit it washed over me. Will try again
Jenny Lewis - haven’t listened to her or Rilo Kiley for years, but she has an ear for a hook. Good album, could be more than good...
Ex Hex - liked the previous stuff, this was a bit crap
Lucy Rose - never got the hype. Beige

I am a massive, massive Rilo Kiley and Jenny Lewis fan. Rilo Kiley are probably my second favourite band ever, and Lewis' solo work is just as excellent. Her last album, The Voyager, is one of the best albums I've ever listened to. I think her new one (On The Line) is a grower, it doesn't immediately capture me like The Voyager does, but it is still good.

(also reading this back, if Patrick Bateman could only do five sit-ups and drove a one-litre hatchback...)

I’ve been working with her for best part of three years and you wouldn’t believe the number of different pronunciations I’ve heard.
