New Music Releases Thread

Idlewild - I'm torn. Been looking forward to it (I preordered despite not being keen on the last one) and I definitely enjoyed listening to it. I do have respect for bands who "grow" and experiment with their sound and they really sound very little like the band I loved in that Hope Is Important - Warnings sweet spot...but truth be told, even though I enjoyed it, the standouts for me were still the couple of tracks that sounded most like old Idlewild. Maybe I'm just stuck.
I found it hit and miss. Some absolute crackers, but I’m really not keen on Lake Martinez.

I’m usually ashamed to say I like Sara Bareilles but this actually feels like a pretty “cool” pop album. Enjoyable.

I went to see Chris Shiflett in Edinburgh tonight and, if the 5 songs he played from it are anything to go by, the new album is going to be a cracker.

Also £13 to see a solo gig from the guitarist of one of the World’s biggest rock bands is a bargain!

So, aside from WH Lung and Martha, which are covered, the other stuff I've listened to from the weekend:

Molly Tuttle - quirky, folky, likeable. Reminds me a bit of Suzanne Vega
Rozi Plain: excellent. She was part of the Fence Collective thing and also plays bass with This Is The Kit. I thought her earlier solo stuff was nice but a bit safe. This goes in numerous directions thanks to collbaorations with Sam Amidon and members of The Comet Is Coming.
Grup Sez & Ethnique Punch: the world needs more Turkish hiphop! Actually, this reminds me of The Avalanches. Album's quite short but you can also listen to the insteumental versions of the tracks.
Cowboy Flying Saucer: their second album but a new name to me. Very good, remind me a bit of The Fall, due in no small part to vocal resemblances. One of them used to be in Magoo.
Wyes Blood: pretty lovely TBH. Very full sounding, skirts just to the good side of MOR, cracking voice!
Proper Ornaments: pleasant, understated indiepop. A nice enough album but it's not a world changer.
Shana Cleveland: quite ballady. It's a good week for female solo artists and this is another good album. She's singer with La Luz, who do sort of surf rock type stuff.

Just listening to weyes blood and its really good. Also the last helado negro is a decent listen if you like a bit of synth pop!

just finished listening to this, a bit unsure about it tbh, bit 'in-one-ear-out-the-other' on first listen. will try it again later. listening to Lee Fields right now, more JB than JB!!

Those highlighted first, for me. Excited about the Flaming Lips release.
