When do we start talking about Jos Buttler?

Bairstow and Moeen and have had a fair few innings near the top of the order mind.

Aye. But is that supposed to weaken the point - the fact they can move up the top of the order and occasionally get tonnes is surely further indication that, at a basic level, they are better test batsmen than Buttler, no?

I was all for Buttler over Bairstow this series, but he's exhausted his chances and is back of the queue now. He just hasn't done enough to convince. Foakes deserves a go, but Bairstow is surely ahead of Buttler now because he is proven at this level, albeit has been woeful for over a year now. It is in there though, somewhere - and he's also a much better glovesman.

Buttler's glovework has been woeful this series.
Think Jennings will start over Crawley unless Crawley gets a score as well

I reckon they'll give him a chance, but we'll see.

Bairstow should keep and bat 7, and be encouraged to play aggressively IMO. Stop trying to make him a top 5 batter and just let him express himself.

Bairstow's passivity isn't the problem. He has a technical flaw against balls nipping back in and the opposition is going to exploit the fuck out of that until he addresses it.

I think he's also voiced his unhappiness with selection decisions a bit too publicly for his own good.

Agreed. I think it wouldn't send a good message if the replacement for Buttler who replaced Bairstow, was to be Bairstow again after his flaws were displayed for all to see again in the first test. Foakes may not have had a great season with the bat at county level but let's not read too much into this, many fine England cricketers were selected on mediocre county records - Vaughan and Trescothick spring to mind and Foakes has already shown he's got the temperament to cope at international level. If Buttler doesn't turn his form around in the next couple of tests, Foakes has to be the replacement for me and it really should be the end of Buttler as a test cricketer.

He’s also got a very handy first class record! Better than the incumbent

In the Saffers 2nd innings when Buttler had to stand up to the stumps a great deal his wicketkeeping deficiencies were really exposed. Strong argument for Foakes to be given the gloves in Sri Lanka.

Buttler is an OK WK who struggles to bat at Test level.
Bairstow is a better WK who can't hold a bat.
Foakes is a tremendous WK who's shown he can bat at Test level.

No brainer for me.

Thing is with England now 2-1 up and likely to win the series, will they make many changes? last time over there we played the spinners, moeen, rashid and leach.

bess, root and possibly leach if fit?

Keep up at the back!- Leach returned to England a week ago.

Great one dayer and T20 but his recent test record must mean he is under threat to be dropped, has to be.

I always felt he was in the test team to try and help prop up a fragile top order. We seem to have moved on now so bring in your best wicketkeeper.
Has to be for me. This should be Denly’s last test too.

I'd take Bess as a spinner and keep Denly for this series for his bowling. Burns will be back in the summer so whoever you replaced Denly with would probably only be for two tests anyway.

One innings to save his Test career, surely?

Don't know like, think he's pretty big in the dressing room. Will be given more time than he should.

Denly's absolute dross against spin though. They could bring Jennings in. Two tests - spin batting specialist.

Jennings was in poor form last season. Didn't hit a single ton.
