I would keep Hume marra -like the look of him
And when Stewart and or simms get injured/suspended or lose form were back to square one. It's obvious we need strikers, especially when you look ahead to next summer. Our squad is:
Bass, Patterson
Gooch, Hume
Ballard, Batth, Wright, Alese
Cirkin, Huggins
Evans, Neil, Embleton, O’Nein, Matete, Ba
Dajaku, Clarke, Roberts, Bennette
Pritchard, Michut, Diallo
Stewart, Simms
Unless we have leavers, I don’t see that we will bring anyone else in. To be honest, I don’t see the need for a club aiming for 5th / 6th at best. We’re looking to consolidate in mid table this season, and the squad is plenty good enough for that.
We’re 4 points off the play offs after half the season, having played most of it without a fit striker, and another couple of key players injured. If everyone stays fit then we could make a run for the play offs, if they don’t then we’ll finish between 8th and 18th - it’s exactly what we were aiming for and expecting this season. As for a striker in January, who do you suggest we go after? Bearing in mind that it will need to be a player capable of scoring in the Championship and willing to be 3rd choice? And when Stewart and or simms get injured/suspended or lose form were back to square one. Would need to be a young one with promise rather than an established player tbh. No one wants another Danny Graham just for the sake of saying we have 3 players in the position. We’re 4 points off the play offs after half the season, having played most of it without a fit striker, and another couple of key players injured. Who?Keep an eye on Connor Coventry
Who?
We specifically don't want anyone wanting to be 3rd choice. I want someone who'd back themselves to break into the side above the players we already have. We’re 4 points off the play offs after half the season, having played most of it without a fit striker, and another couple of key players injured. Considering we should hopefully have the squad mostly back to full strength by the end of December (pending any new injuries), what position(s) do we need to invest in?
Additionally who can we afford/need to offload?
In
1x young promising striker to play third string and learn from those ahead of him.
Out
Hume, Sohna and Spellman loan to a league one team
Dajaku loan out to a league one or another championship club assuming we get a young promising striker in
That’s it for me unless something special came up. I appreciate saying send spellman out on loan while saying we need to sign a young promising striker seems a bit contradicting but it’s clear Mowbray isn’t gonna give that lad a chance here, so he needs to get out somewhere else and get some goals to get himself in the bosses thinking.
Those three young lads have the potential to break into the first team but they really need minutes this season and it’s clear they won’t get them here.
We need to get away from this mentality imo. Stop buying squad players of back up. Buy someone better and Evans becomes the squad player, the team and squad are improved keep doing this all over the pitch and we improveA back up experienced holding midfielder. If Evans is out of the team the midfield is weak as piss.
