You say that as though Donald and Charlie had this as an option. They didn't/don't.

The big problem here is that our fans have no concept of what a long-term project entails. They had to strip the club back to be sustainable financially. From there, they were in a good position to secure investment.

After a very long process, they have finally secured the investment. It's not their fault that the fans demand instant success. The fans hounded out Jack Ross because they thought we had a divine right to win every week. People have been looking at the shirts and the badge rather than the players faces. We do not have the best squad in the league.

There are probably fans on here that think that the investment into the scouting network will bear instant fruit. Expecting us to have targets in mind for January already. This was always going to be a long rebuild. The big problem now is trying to instill patience into one of the most impatient and demanding fanbases in the league.
They’ve just appointed Parkinson as manager. Hardly long term planning there.

For the situation that Sunderland are currently in is Ellis Short no question. Can anybody please explain to me why our current owners get so much abuse as you would think that they are the people that put us in league 1? All of this bitterness and hatred towards them doesnt make sense to me, there is a lot of people who forget or who choose to forget, a lot of people are quick to react to the here and now rather than think who put us here in the first place. There is vicious posts and threads on here with absolute no foundation, all aimed at the wrong people and that is a matter of fact
Ellis made big mistakes... I reckon stopping the cash completely in the championship was a major error... That said it was gracious of him to squash the clubs deby

Your wasting your time mate... rationality has long since walked out of the door on here.
The place is populated by a frightening culture of entitlement, an expectation of computer like instant gratification, a failure to see context or cause or understand consequence.
It’s an embarrassment.
Those that go to the match and support have my respect and deserve better.... but where we are is the
Catastrophic effect of failed leadership over many years hidden by throwing insane amounts of money at it to cover it up, until the money was stopped and how deep the rot was then exposed.
Credit to the people who have took it on, I wouldn’t have sunk the cost of a weekend in Seaburn into the club let alone tens of millions and enourmous personal commitment in terms of time and effort and a load of hassle.
Well said mate, pity you've given up the ghost.

I agree apart from the last part, I really don't think he wants to sell and make a quick turnaround. I do believe him that the club has got him hooked and he is a proper football fan, I think he wants to have a part in getting us back up to the big league then who knows.....
Based on what we’ve seen so far, his ambition drastically outstrips his ability.

What a load of nonsense. This stripping back narrative is horseshit. Fine, strip things back if they aren’t working. However, competent people wouldn’t have shovelled a brand new pile of shite on top of things. If you can’t do anything positive, don’t do anything at all. they’ve done almost nothing that has been a value add on the football side across their entire tenure and are now left with the prospect of a root and branch rebuild next summer just to fix the mistakes of their own making. And that’s before considering that their only viable method of getting us up was to get someone else to bankroll the endeavour - because they lack the knowledge to come up with a workable strategy themselves. If an ownership group can’t get Safc out of league one under their own steam we should be very sceptical of their levels of ability.

Because some fans just want someone to blame and will never be happy , the same fans who are giving them stick will of been praising them last season when things were going well.
When was that? How many weeks were we in a promotion position? That is what I define as “doing well” prrformances have been crap for a year now. summer recruitment should tell us that there is either no money or no interest in getting us promoted. You can’t sign other clubs dead wood at this level without things deteriorating on the pitch. Two wins and FIVE defeats are giving the message loud and clear. If they don’t invest well in the coming window they should be run out of town. Four figure gates might speed the process.

We have only had 2 defeats in the league, and only 4 defeats all together

Yet he kept us a float all season in the championship under Grayson and Coleman, then wiped the debt when he sold us to his mate.....You post is deluded, none factual and utter shite!
Which bits aren’t factual ? ... and you really should be more respectful of fellow posters views.

Short's admittedly big mistakes were generally made with the best intentions and the interests of the club foremost in his mind. History will eventually judge the new owners accordingly when they leave.
It was a hobby man. It cost him a bit for not taking it seriously so he had to clear off his credit card before he left.
I blame Cowie. If he didn't sell to Murray, Murray wouldn't have sold to Drumaville and they wouldn't have sold to Short.

FFS, we'll be blame Eve for eating from the Knowledge Tree next. Anyone but Stewart Donald.
thats the spirit
So......let me get this straight.......Mr Short who is American With no ties to the region employs a manager, Martin ONeill which this media page for a long time, myself included, was apparently guaranteed to take us to the next level.

Mr Short decides after we were all wrong to leave and pays off all our debt.

Its Mr Shorts fault.

I have it on good authority that Mr Short watches all our games live....still a fan.....god bless you.

What fucking planet are you on?
planet accountability mate ... only one owner, one shareholder, one vision, one agreed strategy ... Ellis Short

And if he loves us so much tell him to fund the current owners as they know what they are doing.
If you go back to root cause our failures are caused by a significant number of people taking advantage of Ellis Short.
yes that’s how business works.Man he’s a multi billionaire, one of the hardest hitting businessmen in the world.
You don’t take advantage of Ellis Short ... he just didn’t have the right vision or strategy or employ the right people to implement it and he had 10 years to get it right.

What a load of fucking shit
Good technical argument... in other words you haven’t got a scooby
Isn't this exactly the same thing that SD has done?
SD has been cleaning up Shorts mess.... and has been going at it 18 months not 10 years
i blame joe hart.
if he hadn't have been so shite at the euro's v iceland roy hodgson wouldn't have left the england job, allardyce wouldn't have had his head turned and we might have built something instead of getting moyes.
BSA wasn’t going to hang around and work for Short the way the club was ran
Short put a lot of money into the club, Donald has taken millions out of it.
prove it
I don't get how anyone can possibly blame Short for the current mess. Yes, he got us double relegated but that's the first team. The whole club is an absolute shambles currently.

2017/18 Last Season With Short
1st Team - Bottom Championship
Under 23's - 11th PL2 D1 (Relegated) - 22 Pts
Under 18's - 7th - 32 Pts

2019/20 (So Far)
1st Team - 7th League One (Beat off Leicester U21's)
Under 23's - Bottom PL2 D2 - 1 Pt
Under 18's - Bottom - 0 Pts

The state of the youth teams currently is as an absolute shambles and it's getting ignored by the fact the first team is just as bad.

As much as Bain was hated on here it would take something special to be in a worse position than we are right now with the current clowns in charge.
Have you listened to Methvens/Reid’s pod cast yet? Suggest you do, it might change your perspective on the younger teams
Donald only seems to send Charlie out when he's on the back foot. He's like an attack dog. If things are going well Donald is front and centre. When they aren't Charlie appears like a fucking gene
SD just wants to be a fan and please everyone...Methven is the better corporate communicator and will say the right things
If Ellis has stayed Where would we be now?

Honest question. The bloke created a monster, but he left having given the club a clean slate. If he had stayed, wiped out the debt and started again, would we still be in this mess?
Had we not got instantly promoted we would have broken the leagues financials rules. The resetting had to include slashing overheads to create a sustainable club

Ellis spent unwisely but he had deep pockets and wasn't afraid to have a go.
His last act to rescue his reputation was to "waive the debt". If it turns out he's gifted the club to a pair of grifters who just want to flip it for as big a personal profit as possible then all the good of him writing off the debt will have been undone. Stew D often says "judge me after I sell SAFC when you see the terms of the deal" . The leaks from the last negotiations sounded damning in terms of Donald's demands . The appointment of Parkinson is a kick in the nuts to all SAFC fans . If Parkinson had joined the shittest team in League 1 , no-one would have said " great signing for Southend, I reckon Parkie could have done better than that "
It's clear already that the pressure of running SAFC has got to Donald . The adoration he got from 300 odd Eastleigh fans for buying them corner flags and a burger van isn't so easy to achieve at a huge football club with expectations of real progress on the field.

He didn't sit back and watch us to down to league 1.....he appointed the best manager available after quickly realising Grayson wasn't good enough. He had every right to think though that Coleman would keep us up. It wasn't his fault the management teams recruited Steele Ruiter and Camp. Ultimately it is the managers and players that have got us into L1 not the owner
Funny isn’t it how all the managers, all the players, all the staff, all the executives were shit for 10 years, but it was nowt to do with Ellis

clearly not the case , we maintained a premier league XI for ten years but couldn't live within our means. The constant managerial and player upheaval costing more than Ellis wanted to pay.

At least Short put money into the club and gave it a go, he was badly advised and put his trust in the wrong people. Was willing to cut his losses to get rid of us losing his billionaire status in the process (although I would have liked him to have done it a year earlier). The current fuckers look like they want to spend as little as possible to make the most as possible whilst bullshitting to us all in the present.
so those who advised are to blame ? and the guy who hired them is to blame.?
yes I totally agree, we were shafted when SD & CM took over it's just taking an age to get past the shite they inherited

It’s impossible to blame one person for the current shit show, it started about 10 years ago if not longer and an awful lot of people have contributed to our demise.
The wages we were dishing out starting with Keane were the start of the financial problems. You're right there are lot of people who shod share the blame.

Short meant will just unfortunately ended up employing a bunch of fuckwits to make the decisions for him. one thing you can't accuse him of though is not putting money in. he must have lost an absolute fortune

what the current owners are doing is up in the air. they were happy to lap it all up last season but now after a piss poor penny pinching managerial appointment SD has gone into hiding and everyone is scratching their heads wondering what the fuck is going on behind the scenes

have absolute no faith the current ownership will get us out of this league. it's all about saving money and maximizing profit from any sale to them now imo
