The one man that is 100% to blame

I'm a lot more sympathetic to Short than I was back in the day.

He wasn't malicious in his decisions, just taken advantage of by a long line of chancers and bullshitters that told him what he wanted to hear.

His weakness for Yes Men was confirmed when he forked out £140m to bail out SAFC only to "sell" it to a pair of utter gobshites.

Haha people still blaming SD and CM...Are they playing the football!?! It's them players that are responsible for winning 5-0 and then being shite!

For the situation that Sunderland are currently in is Ellis Short no question. Can anybody please explain to me why our current owners get so much abuse as you would think that they are the people that put us in league 1? All of this bitterness and hatred towards them doesnt make sense to me, there is a lot of people who forget or who choose to forget, a lot of people are quick to react to the here and now rather than think who put us here in the first place. There is vicious posts and threads on here with absolute no foundation, all aimed at the wrong people and that is a matter of fact
Not even worth disagreeing with you as you obviously don’t have a clue anyway.

Because some fans just want someone to blame and will never be happy , the same fans who are giving them stick will of been praising them last season when things were going well.
You would get praised at work last year if you were doing a good job, but if you took your eye off the ball this year your boss and customers would be giving you grief! One good season in which we failed doesn't give them a pass! The team is weaker, there a tin pot board.....

I think it’s for things such as telling fans we won’t be or need to sell high earners then go right ahead and sell high earners.
Maybe it’s because it’s quite apparent they don’t have the resources to run a club of our size and are just chancers who had an idea to flip a business ( not football club ) after one season and make lots of money.
Perhaps because the minute things don’t go according to plan our owner goes into hiding under a rock
Or it could be because our owners brought in Phil Parkinson and told us he was the outstanding candidate yet he is piss poor.
Could be because some fans now see these owners as nothing more than 80s yuppies
Perhaps having fans do the work putting seats in so the owners save a few bob
Could be this new investment being another way of them making a bit coin building up the academy as a selling ground for the big guns
Signing will Grigg
Selling maja
Signing worse players than we have already in the hope of a sell of,,,make a bit coin
I personally have took the new owners with open arms and anything moving on from Ellis Short had seemed an improvement, however they aren’t what they said they were.

Short spent money in good faith to keep us going, he failed to check the spends were balancing the books and the impact.
Any business that goes bankrupt due to the owner being negligent and people being unemployed would get the blame why not Short, why is he so different ?
He totally fucked us, ignoring what the health of the business was and continued to ignore the finances.
Yes we had a good run in the PL, were now paying for this, a consequence of Shorts negligence.
Don’t understand why he’s deemed so innocent in the demise of SAFC.
SD could bankroll the club back into the championship by adding debt, and selling assets, would this make people happy ?
SD has came in and tried to take us on, I believe without realising what he’s taken on and how to move it in.
I do believe he’s motives are like most others who comes to SAFC, make some cash then f**k off.

Short is partly to blame that’s all,the free fall started on his watch and when appointing Bain he’d basically lost interest.
The present owners have to take the flak for where we are presently, simply because of the poor recruitment which has left us with a no more than top ten League 1 team.
That wasn’t meant to be in the script.

I agree apart from the last part, I really don't think he wants to sell and make a quick turnaround. I do believe him that the club has got him hooked and he is a proper football fan, I think he wants to have a part in getting us back up to the big league then who knows.....

I honestly hope your correct, otherwise we’re really screwed.
The takeover has made me look at it a different way, fingers crossed 🤞

Love how some fans are suddenly experts at running a club, when they haven’t got a clue what our finances are like

What happened and who was to blame is history , I think the important thing is to take stock of where we are and to look to the future . The investment/takeover should be used as a catalyst for change , surely by now our current owners should have a good idea what is required to implement changes to improve our situation . One major change has already happened with the departure of Jack Ross replaced by Phil Parkinson, the main virtue is that he knows English Football and players better than Ross so should know players that he wants to bring to the club during the transfer window as it is evident he will need to wheel and deal if we are to mount a promotion challenge . The Academy and recruitment teams require attention and strengthening as a matter of urgency , the list goes on and on . The blame game needs to stop it’s the future we need to be concentrating on .

Its not Shorts fault that we cant get out of this league. Thats on the new ownership and pretty much every decision they have made on the football side of things.

At least Short put money into the club and gave it a go

You say that as though Donald and Charlie had this as an option. They didn't/don't.

The big problem here is that our fans have no concept of what a long-term project entails. They had to strip the club back to be sustainable financially. From there, they were in a good position to secure investment.

After a very long process, they have finally secured the investment. It's not their fault that the fans demand instant success. The fans hounded out Jack Ross because they thought we had a divine right to win every week. People have been looking at the shirts and the badge rather than the players faces. We do not have the best squad in the league.

There are probably fans on here that think that the investment into the scouting network will bear instant fruit. Expecting us to have targets in mind for January already. This was always going to be a long rebuild. The big problem now is trying to instill patience into one of the most impatient and demanding fanbases in the league.
