Im pretty certain there will be lots of heathens that will hurl abuse at this ref make no mistake about it. The thing is though you don’t defeat hate with hate and therefore I suggest any fans doing this should have the decent fans singing his name. Make love not war as they say.

That is exactly how it should be. Unfortunately there are people who do. You could have asked "who gives a fuck, it's only skin colour or religion" and clearly they are hot areas at the moment in football.

Though with a lot being done to combat that, perhaps this is a good time to expand and say discrimination against gender, race, religion or sexual preference does not have a place in the modern world. Certainly not open and vocal on a football terrace, which is now a family environment.

I honestly think if a prominent player came out, he wouldn’t get much stick in matches if any.
Social media would be another issue.

He deserves lots of praise for coming out and it may help others to do so and progress their careers however I don’t think someone’s sexuality matters as much these days. That said, football is a macho environment and I imagine it would be difficult living in secret.

Thank god, racism and homophobia is now not acceptable in society, however, it will never go away entirely unfortunately.

As a side note, is that the ref who’s absolutely ripped and wears his referee kit as tight as possible?

Whoever that is, and I’m not saying it
is him, is an egotistical (insert your own description here) and makes the game all about him.

If people on here think the UK is bad they might want to take a trip to Italy. I travelled for business with an openly gay colleague a couple of years ago and was shocked at the attitudes over there towards it all.
 
The Danish football association (DBU) published a study on diversity in football in February 2020. Sexuality was one of the focal points. The conclusion was that there is 1% homosexuals in society and in football (among men. Among women its 3 for football and 3 in society. I personally think the numbers were a bit low, but this was not accounting for bisexuality, which would increase the numbers.)
These numbers are across all levels, of course. So, where does it go awry? The numbers in top flight football certainly don't reflect the same. And I also doubt that even if every one came out, that the numbers would reflect society.

It's great you feel that way. I agree.
I personally don't give a flying fuck about anyones sexuality, but unfortunately a lot of people do, including bigots. This means that non heterosexual people feel a need to live a lie and hide from the abuse they would undoubtedly get.
They shouldn't have to hide who they are.
If more people stood up and said it like you have, that would be great for them.

Those bigots will never ever go away though, no matter what people like me think.
