That's not the figure I was disputing. Footballers aren't representative of the wider population, they're just a very small fraction of it. So I think to assume that 10%, or even 6.4%, of male footballers would be gay would be a stretch.
On the other hand, it is well reported that five women England players are openly gay. Now I don’t know what percentage of the women’s England football squad that represents but, if it applies to them, then it is a representative sample of women footballers. Thus, it might be assumed that would also be as likely to apply to a similar group of male footballers,

Interesting little article on that

Schofeild wasn’t openly gay till this year
I knew the moment I posted that that would be your reply.
Ffs.
You said in Post 73 that Schofield and Barrymore were married before they came out, as a reply to someone defending LeSaux because he is married to a woman. The intimation being that LeSaux could still be gay anyway because those 2 were.

Who gives a fuck.
It’s only sexuality.
That is exactly how it should be. Unfortunately there are people who do. You could have asked "who gives a fuck, it's only skin colour or religion" and clearly they are hot areas at the moment in football.

Though with a lot being done to combat that, perhaps this is a good time to expand and say discrimination against gender, race, religion or sexual preference does not have a place in the modern world. Certainly not open and vocal on a football terrace, which is now a family environment.

Yes an interesting article except it is only a view that gay women are ‘over-represented’ in football not supported by facts or research that I know of. I suppose it could equally be said gay male footballers are almost certainly highly under-represented in male teams.

Have any of the WSL lasses come out as lesbian I kna they wouldn’t get the same level of abuse as their male counterparts just wondered

I'm not sure if figures have been gathered on these points, but I think its probably a fair assumption that the world of competitive sport is reasonably testosterone filled world, be it either a male or female sport. So your feelings on the over and under representation are probably right.

Adcock. Brilliant, just brilliant. Life is funnier than fiction.

Joking aside, well done James. Hopefully some actual players will follow, because haway, what is it, 92 teams, squads of about 30?
I‘d be surprised if 50% of them aren’t gay.
