New Music Releases Thread

Piccadilly and rough trade also done their top 10. Mine are, in sort of order.

1 Alex Cameron
2 LCD Soundsystem
3 Future Islands
4 UNKLE
5 Man Duo
6 Baxter Dury
7 Moonlandingz
8 War on Drugs
9 Warm Digits
10 British Sea Power

Missing out we're Andrew Weatherall, Lindstrom, Gnoomes, Horrors, Michael Head, cigarettes after Sex, Slowdive, Vacant lots and Bicep.

Obviously waiting to see what Fake Nudes is like (3 tracks I’ve heard so far have been a bit MOR though). In alphabetical order:

Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness
Bodycount
The Cousins
Jason Isbell and the 300 Unit
Justin Townes Earle
Margo Price
Me and that Man
New Pornographers
Real McKenzies
Son Volt

Ryan Adams (twice - in fact I think I might prefer the Prisoner B-Sides) and Aimee Mann just missed the cut. Radnor & Lee night make its way onto the list by the end of December.

My album of the year is definitely Hurray for the Riff Raff. Jens Lekman, Jen Cloher, LCD Soundsystem and Michael Head all definitely top 10. Need to think about the rest...

Disappointed with Fake Nudes on first couple of listens, especially considering Ed Robertson has been waxing lyrical about it being the best record he’s made etc. Steven Page, come back! All is forgiven!

The last track, The Township of King, is fantastic though.

So, first aside, no particular order:

Hurray for the Riff Raff
Jens Lekman
Jen Cloher
LCD Soundsystem
Michael Head
Magnetic Fields
Micah P Hinson
Endless Boogie
King Gizzard (Murder of the Universe)
Lisa Knapp

Loads bubbling under but I'll pick out Sun Riah, Kevin Morby, Baxter Dury, Peter Perrett and Wand as 11-15.

Its not been a great year for albums but has been a great year for gigs. Quite a few artists have released decent albums which aren't nearly as good as their last ones - Future Islands, War on Drugs, Jason Isbell.

For me the best albums this year were by:

Valerie June
Four Tet
Ryan Adams
Jason Isbell (even though the previous 2 albums by him were clearly better)
The XX
Onsind (just released)
