New Music Releases Thread

Oh they are fine but the first album was superb and then it just gets a bit boring for me

Arcade Fire I fully agree on. Absolute crap. Looking forward to seeing them live at York Hall mind

I know it's a long shot but if you do hear of any spares coming up please let me know. I'll be there outside harassing anybody for a spare anyway.
Wonder if touts have many andcehat going rate will be.

Kane Strang is my favourite record from today

Have once again been listening to the rather excellent Richard Dawson record and Ulrika Spacek for @Gideon Gungeon there mate

I spent the day listening to Nick Cave and then the new Public Enemy album (actually, I spent a fair bit of the day lstening to my boss groaning and swearing mildly). Kane Strang is Rough Trade's record of the week and they're mostly right...

New Mogwai tune thing...

May involve a rhubarb penis so don't play it to your children (or do, hopefully)

Didn't 'get' PSB at all for some reason, I got bored very quickly. The ticket prices are outrageous but going to have to see Nas next Monday as he never plays in Liverpool and I'll only whinge about missing it (vaguely on topic I know). Class catching up with this thread as ever.

Not keen on that new Mogwai song. Sounds really clean and almost like a pop song. Give me the roughness of Rano Pano any time over something like that. I'm sure I'll love it by the time I've listened to the album a hundred times a week after it's released.

New Jay-Z album is much better than expected. Finally got around to the Kevin Morby album as well, love it. As good as last year's album I think. I quite enjoyed The Drums new album as well, never really heard much from them before other than that Lets Go Surfing song from a few years back that was played on a million adverts.

So, new and newish stuff I've listened to in the last couple of days:

Public Enemy: it's free. They were once magnificent and are still terrific live but they have, essentially, been making the same album for 15 to 20 years now.
The Secret Sisters: lovely harmony vocals covering a range of musical styles (all of which can be classed under 'Americana'). Well worth a listen!
Beth Ditto: very good indeed. Proper pop really.
Music From the American Epic Sessions: 1920s music recorded on vintage equipment. No surprise that Jack White is on there! Double album so 32 tracks of blues, jazz, country, bluegrass and what can only be described as 1920s hiphop courtesy of Nas.
Mark Kozelek and Sean Yeaton: fairly minimal musically as Mark Kozelek sort of talk sings his stuff. Quite nice but hardly essential.
Peter Perrett: he's still got that crackingly distinctive voice. It's a really good album and manages to sound both familiar and new simultaneouly.
Terry: Australian mix of indiepop and post-punk. Again okay but nothing essential.
Beach House: sounds like Beach House again.
Wesley Gonzalez: he's moved away a bit from the spiky guitar stuff of Let's Wrestle toward a more keyboard based sound. All enjoyably wonky really!
Kane Strang: Very good indeed! Well constructed songs, interesting arrangements...

Further additions:

Washed Out's new album is very lovely but ultimately inconsequential, much like a stoat eating a plate of gravy from a picnic table in a country park.
Finnish epic prog-metal funsters Circle have made an album of epic prog-metal in Finnish (mostly) that's fun! Very good actually... if they looked like this:

I came across this list of the 100 bet Canadian bands ever tonight, eh. Each band has a write up from a musician or someone from the music scene.
Highlights for me are Rural Alberta Adavantage at 91, Japandroids 83, SNFU at 80, Death from Above 1979 at 60, Hot Hot Heat 51, Barenaked Ladies 12 places lower than their rightful place and New Pornos at 10.

Can't argue with the top 3.

Ok, so the new Arcade Fire material is wank.

However, after several hundred gigs, that was the greatest show I have ever been to. Radiohead last night were incredible as ever. However this was a completely different scale
Blown. Away

To answer your earlier PM mate, unfortunately didn't. Took your advice and tried ticketmaster but nothing happening. Spoke to somebody who went last night ticketless and they said standard was £200 off few touts who did have them.
I was working in Camden until after 6.30 so with a heavy heart thought fuck it and didn't head over.
Saw a few videos from last night and it looked amazing. Glad you loved it. No doubt they'll play more accessible gigs in the near future.
