Time to move on. Maja is history, I wish him well and thank him for his goals this season. What’s important now is what we do before the window closes to replace him.

I also notice the club has made a very, very brief statement on safc.com

Josh Maja has completed a move to Bordeaux.

The 20-year old Sunderland AFC academy graduate has joined the French Ligue 1 side on a permanent basis.

No thanks or good luck ....
Don't think they ever do when a player leaves do they

Mind the way he carried on don't think he got a bouquet of flowers either

I’ve got twitter but to be honest I never look at comments people make on posts like that because it’s generally just people calling each other names.

Not seen anyone saying asset stripping but this half the time is just slang for selling all our players (even though that isn’t actual asset stripping). I do think he probably does lie (or at least over embellishes the truth) but he has to. Again that’s normal. Everyone in business lies to a degree. I wouldn’t personally class lieing itself as sinister, unless it was of course to hide something that was sinister.
I’m not willing to say he’s a liar as I haven’t seen any evidence of that and my default position, probably naively, is to trust people. Especially when it comes to SAFC.

I do think he definitely gets over excited and that probably does lead to him exaggerating (or over embellishing) but in that instance I don’t think there’s any premeditated or bad intentions.

He's gone to Bordeaux because that's the most lucrative deal his agent could get.

It might be, but I can't imagine he's going to be on as much as some people think. Generally speaking the French league isn't a massive wage payer. Add to that the fact the manager pretty much hasn't heard of him and is talking about him as a decent young player and it sounds like he's been signed more for their development squad rather than the first team, which will mean less wages again. Still think, bearing that in mind, it seems an odd move for him. Brought in as a youngun for a decent top flight side with a manager who knows next to nothing about him. It's almost like he's starting and having to prove himself all over again. Thought he'd want a step up but to still be getting plenty minutes on the pitch

I’m not saying he has bad intentions. Far from it. I just don’t think he is as honest as some make out, and tbf that is probably a good thing. Total openness and honestness can harm the club, or cause issues.

Our press releases are incredibly childish.

I suppose we could tell the truth.

Josh Maja and his representatives were offered the terms they demanded but after those demands were met and despite assurances by Josh himself that he would sign a new contract he reneged on the deal.

He has turned his back on the club that made him into the player he is to sign for a non descript French club in a poor league for a hefty signing on fee.

Good luck etc.

Agree, it does seem an odd move, which is why I think it must have been the best move on the table financially. I don’t think he’s got anywhere near a good enough all round game, perhaps he’ll be able to develop in France. He’s had barely half a season playing for one of the more dominant teams in the third tier during which he’s shown a good ability to finish nicely in and around the box. He has promise, but that’s all. The move to Bordeaux just seems too early to me.

RR reporting that we won't see any money. 1.5m is upfront fee is being paid off when we bought Khazri from them. So the funds arent there to reinvest immediately.

This is gonna be the new excuse when we don't strengthen nee doubt

Jesus fuckin christ...we have the most expensive squad in the League and fuckers go on and moan constantly about more players...these are the very same players everyone sticks up for after a bad game

Moan away muffin!

I’m implying 1.5 now is more important to the club than keeping him until the summer. There was no bids for him then he goes and settles a debt in the window.

Charlie Methven has already stated that academy players with be sold to cover losses. This is exactly that.

You do understand that the player and agent wanted to move? This isn’t like we sold someone who was caught off guard and is upset with the club. It looks like he couldn’t wait to clear out his things....

Everything starting to unravel now. Despite him paying off the debt, the Short era has effectively killed off any chance of this club ever having a half decent side again. Seems to be nasty surprises always lurking around the corner. Maybe having a team of young hungry players at this level is now our apex ?
Bain cant escape scott free from this...he was in charge of running the business. As it now appears he was running it into the ground.

Aye but nobody wanted to buy him. A team we owe money to took him in the end. Coincidence?

This..apart from the good luck as I hope he rots...

Without his goals this season we’d not be in the top three in this league. People can argue about his decision and motives for leaving but he’s going to have to be replaced. We won’t miss his work rate or hold up play but as an out and out finisher he’s going to take some replacing.

Try reading it back, it would help. I was referring to the club which I think is fairly clear since I said “ so your claim about the club being equally to blame, is incorrect”and yet you responded with
“Blame for what ? He is doing what I would , get the most while you can”
I don’t think I have blamed anyone anywhere on this thread, other than an insinuation that his agent is a snake.
What an irritating twat you are, you making a mountain out of a mole hill give yourself a shake , balloon
