Enlarged prostrate

I only started my new job 2 weeks ago in a dr surgery and most blokes in the latter years who come in for summit else have either had positive bloods or positive scans on their prostate. Most tell you how often they get out of bed for a slash before they tell you their name. Most see it as a hinderence and not a illness.

I had an attractive lady doctor/specialist poking her finger up mine.
Not content with that, she then started playing with me tadger and feeling me balls.
Not content with that she started asking personal questions about me sex life,
such as when was the last time I had an erection,
.....by which time I was getting close to my first one in a while............

I've just found out me dad has one and has to go for a scan. Now I know it could be nothing but that doesn't mean I'm not worried about him:neutral:
Any information/personal experiences
Reading through the thread and having had a prosectomy last year at 64 my limited knowledge would chime with most posters on here and say there is not a great deal to worry about with the symptoms you describe. My GP reckoned that 90% of blokes your dads age have signs of prostrate cancer but it will be life limiting in only a very few cases. The range of treatments available now are amazing and not that invasive. Best of luck to you, best of luck to your old man.

My grandad had prostate cancer a few year back and made a full recovery.

Think he had an operation to remove most of it then radiotherapy to get shot of the rest but he made a full recovery and is back to himself now.

I can't even remember him being that ill through it all to be honest. Only real issue he's had is he can't really drink alcohol much now as he can't keep away from the toilet but apart from that he's fine.

Grandad has had prostate cancer for about 10 years now. Managed with tablets and growth monitored. He's was diagnosed at about your dads age and is now 83. Only thing that really affects him is up and down during the night for the loo. His dodgy heart will see him off before the big c I imagine.

Thank you I am so reassured Xxx

@janey I'd totally recommend you get in touch with http://prostatecanceruk.org/

I used to work for them a long time ago (as a fundraiser) and I know they will give you all the support and info you need about any prostate condition.

Edit: in fact here you go: http://prostatecanceruk.org/prostate-information/other-prostate-problems/enlarged-prostate
Thank you xx

I'm off for a scan and biopsy on Monday. Had the finger test at my GP's and all was well but the blood test came back a bit high. Can't say I'm not a bit worried but I suppose if it is anything bad we'll have caught it early enough (I'm 59).

Alan Bennett has a good story about the DRE (digital rectal examination). He's lying curled up on the couch with the doctor's finger having a good root around. "Well, there's nothing of interest up here," says the doctor from behind him, "but it's always nice to see you."
Hope this went okay on Monday

Best to keep a pisspot beside the bed, save having to trot off to the bog every hour or so.

A five ltr plastic bottled water container is ideal, so you can keep the top screwed on rather than be stunk out of the bedroom.

Even more worried about me dad now, he's complaining of a bad back and has said he's not going to the match. He never says that, over the years there has been times I've not fancied it and he's said he's going so obviously I've gone too.
He's now missed the Spurs game and about to miss the game on Sunday. Apart from when everything happened with me sister and niece, which was different, I've never ever ever known him miss 2/3 because he wasn't feeling well

Sooner he knows what's going on the sooner they can treat him( if that's what it comes to)

Hopefully nowt serious though
