Our fanbase isn't on a par though. They average 20k more at home games than we do. In fact the gap in crowds between Middlesbrough and Hartlepool is smaller than between us and the mags these days. We've been in this pathetic backwater league 4 long years now. It's delusional to expect the same coverage as a Premier League team.

Hopefully in time we'll once again be a Premier League football club and when that day comes, if we aren't getting equal media coverage we'd have a valid conplaint.
Attendances are different to fan base

Can pay £4.50 a month to listen to Barnes and Benno commentary on games on SAFSee. Been handy being able to listen to it on my phone.

They have far bigger fanbase in the Region as well, especially since 1992, when they started to infiltrate huge parts of places like Durham for example. The only true/accurate measure of the size of a fanbase is the official attendances however, anything else is guesswork.

As I say, we need to get back to the Premier League and once we are on a level par with them we should expect equal media time. It's fanciful to expect a League One team to get the same coverage as a Premier League team.

The mags were down to 40,000 last season whatever the official figures were. We had 39,000 in Div 3.

Your arguement is poor, probably a mag or wum.

If you accept mediocrity you will get it.

Nobody is accepting mediocrity and if you called someone a mag to their face in a pub you'd have your teeth put down your throat so don't embarrass yourself by doing it from the safety of the internet.

Historically they are a bigger supported club than us. I use the word bigger, not better, but historically they are the 5th biggest supported club in England. We are in 10th position. They are the facts as they stand. Of course this is an accident of Geography as they enjoy having a huge catchment area to pull in support from all directions but that is how it is.

Aside from that, they currently play 2 leagues above us. If you expect both teams, in their current positions to be pulling in equal media time you are living in cloud cuckoo land marra.

I'll repeat myself yet again. We need to get our own house in order, drag this club back into the Premier League by any means possible then the argument about equal media coverage becomes valid.

Does nobody else think we are being sold short by our Regional BBC Radio Station.
Newcastle fans can listen to every game on the premium FM network.
We get FM when nufc and nufc u23s are not playing.

We are told there are ways to listen to the SAFC games by DAB and TV 719.
If this is such a good alternative why don't nufc fans have to do this?

If you agree please raise this with the station as I have tried to many times.
Don't accept the crap that this is to do with a possible return of Radio Sunderland.
100 percent

Join the million lost licence holders in the last year, starve them of finance and change will eventually come.

It will. We'll lose the country's only public service broadcaster, and the Murdochisation of the British media will be complete. BBC replaced by Fox News anyone?

Think the answer is simple. Don't listen. Don't use their service.
It's the only service though, and we're within our rights to demand fair coverage. It doesn't belong to NUFC.
I'm surprised this issue hasn't cropped up on here before because it is terrible. it's quite a few years since I've used the radio for games and just assumed it was the status quo situation. Piss take.
There's been posts on here before, encouraging people to complain.
Until we occupy a similar league position, then we will be treated like a minority sports club by the media.

And that is down to the owners. Act 3rd rate, become 3rd rate.
Newcastle weren't kicked off FM following their relegations, when Sunderland were in the higher division.
We're in Division 3. Ultimately we won't get the same coverage as a Premier League team, locally or Nationally.
That isn't what BBC Newcastle are saying though. It's never been their policy to favour the team in the higher league in terms of radio station.

As an outsider (Boro fan), I understand what you're saying, but (imo) if Radio Newcastle is meant to provide a service to both Tyneside and Wearside, then surely , regardless of who is in what division, then I would suggest that the match coverage should be catering equally for both clubs.
League one or premier League, you're both in the radio Newcastle area, so therefore both have fans that pay a licence fee, so should both have the right to expect to be able to listen to your respective clubs matches.

Shocking the number of Sunderland fans happily bowing down and accepting this sort of thing.

Proper downtrodden breed, scared to stand up for themselves, quietly nodding along at whatever the Mags say about us. The club is jam packed with losers. No wonder we're stuck in this crappy division.

Said it for years but we do need proper radio representation. BBC Radio Newcastle is always going to cater more for Newcastle by default.

I don‘t think you understand that Radio Newcastle is meant to be impartial to all of the area. It’s tag line is “Radio for the North East”. It managed to stay impartial for many years with its live match coverage till the FM decision.
