Does nobody else think we are being sold short by our Regional BBC Radio Station.
Newcastle fans can listen to every game on the premium FM network.
We get FM when nufc and nufc u23s are not playing.

We are told there are ways to listen to the SAFC games by DAB and TV 719.
If this is such a good alternative why don't nufc fans have to do this?

If you agree please raise this with the station as I have tried to many times.
Don't accept the crap that this is to do with a possible return of Radio Sunderland.

I complained about it in December - got this reply

Thank you for contacting us again regarding BBC Newcastle broadcasting Newcastle United and Sunderland matches.

Firstly, we apologise for the delay in replying.

We have spoken directly with the station Editor about your concerns.

We'd explain that we used to alternate games on FM and DAB. The away game would be put on FM due to potential higher listenership as DAB was still relatively new.

There are now more listeners on DAB but the majority still listen on FM.

When Radio Sunderland started in January this year it was on DAB only, and meant all Sunderland games needed to be on DAB and Freeview.

We have continued with putting Sunderland games on DAB and Freeview and Newcastle United on FM when both sides play at the same time. If there is no fixture clash then games go on all frequencies.

We appreciate that we cannot please everyone each time but we'd assure you that these editorial decisions are very carefully considered.

Kind regards,

Not just radio, but our friends at Look North also. On a Monday they show interviews with Howe and Wilder and then we are afforded exactly the same air time as Hartlepool, Harrogate etc, with all due respect we are the joint biggest club in the region but we're nothing but a lower league afterthought. You can bet your bottom dollar if it had been the mags in our position they wouldn't be getting treat like second class citizens.

If you accept this explanation OK
If not ring or text or email total sport and let them know that this is not acceptable.

It was a pretty shoddy reply but I didn’t know what else i could do. Already raised it with Nick Barnes and his hands were tied.

This is a recent issue ..they used to be fair and alternate between clubs then they gave the FM frequency to the home team and tossed up for who got the FM frequency if both played at home.

The key thing is that they realized it was a fairness issue and that's why they alternated!
Somebody has made the decision to change. Probably a mag producer and im not sure but i think it happened just after the takeover!

Its not the end of the world but i hate bias and this is clearly one!

It needs numbers to e mail radio Newcastle and someone to bring it up on total sport(dont mention to the phone lackey that that's what your going to discuss cos you wont get on)
What's the e mail of the clubs footy liaison bloke perhaps he could ask scummy radio for a response.

I doubt on here you will get much of a positive response but one can hope.

The lad on Total Sport tonight was spot on.

When we were in the premiership and our rivals were in the championship our local BBC radio station broke its neck to treat the two clubs alike.

Funny how times change.

I actually dont mind the radio station as on the whole it isnt too bad, it just has a stupid name to represent the NE. Until it changes that its going to get all the shite it deserves.

The BBC TV on the whole are a biased magedia mess (Jeff Brown aside).

Think the answer is simple. Don't listen. Don't use their service.

They won’t do that man they’ll piss and moan that a third division team doesn’t get as good coverage as a premier league team. Just like Gateshead moan about how much coverage we get and Shields complain about how much coverage Gateshead get. Oh that’s right they don’t …….,…..

I wrote in and got the same shite. I sent a further complaint saying that my specific points weren't answered, next reply basically said f*** off. I haven't got a clue what Radio Sunderland being on DAB has to do with anything!!
