Of course it matters when they are won. Sunderland won their titles decades ago when it was much easier to win league titles. Sunderland have done diddly squat in the many decades that have followed and are a big club only in their minds.

Loathe these big club threads.But.
big club imo, big history, bigger club than us going off achievements and more recent trophies.
Possibly only a few uk teams can match or better their achievements in europe.

Sunderland do have a good support when you consider the catchment area.

If I were a Sunderland fan I'd be more concerned with how Newcastles success is going to affect your fanbase in the coming years.

Newcastle are 10 miles ish away, their success will have an effect. You could argue if they were 40 miles away nothing would change but the fact they are so close will affect your numbers in time.

I am concerned about how they will affect the future, of the club, its part of the reason why i want sunderland back in the premer league as quick as possible.
