Wembley built an extension for the fictional 150,000 fans did they? I once had the displeasure of dealing with a Leeds fan who insisted to my boss, a Man Utd fan, on our visits to his business, that Leeds were bigger than Man Utd and had a season ticket waiting list of nearly 300,000. That's the level of stupidity some Leeds fans believe to be true

Leeds used to be a big'ish club, but 20 years of nothing, sleazy owners , an absolute shithole of a ground and liquidation has taken its toll.
Big club ?? You went into liquidation cos you were skint....
Shameful and that makes you a minnow in football terms....

Same here, not many English teams have done it, not even Manchester City with all the cash they have yet, possible they go back-to-back this season, but not many teams apart from the very best go back-to-back to win that trophy and Forest have.

As someone who has lived in Nottingham and Warwickshire for a good few years they're not even the biggest club in the East Midlands let alone a big club. Villa are the biggest club in the Midlands followed by Leicester, Forest probably third.

Sorry but disagree, massive catchment area already supporting 2 big clubs.
The Region is a football Region, not many areas in this Country can tick that box.

Small provincial club with zero history of major success before or after Brian Clough, achieved unbelievable success during a small period of time.

1st Div champs
European champs
European champs
in successive seasons, plus league cup success during that period.....pretty astonishing really.
Not a big club for me though.

Leeds....again, prior to and post Revie no great history of success, they were about the same as Liverpool when Shankly took over, he left a legacy which became the dominant force in domestic & european football, Revie left a legacy of bitterness and accusations.
Terrific team under Revie, probably should have achieved more than they did but I wouldn't call them a big club, now or historically.

Big club not giant. I think through the late 70’s and 80’s they won the most after Liverpool. If you count those cup comps they invented after we were banned from Europe and stuff. But still had a great 15 years or so… before that there’s an argument to say County were the main team in Nottingham

Villa of course having won the european cup also, leicester more successful in recent history of course.

This post is absolutely spot on and saved me the effort of explaining why Sunderland often have such low attendances at Cup games in general, Sunderlands league attendances are an absolute credit to the club and its passionate fanbase in general taking into account the areas lack of financial investment over a long period of time resulting in lower disposal income for much of the fanbase compared to lots of other clubs fans.

Leeds Uniteds attendances historically are piss poor for a so called big club, how can they claim to be so well supported when they have never even once averaged 40k over the course of their entire history ffs. 🤭

In the big clubs list which they would be in they would be towards the lower end. Good club Forest , good city too.

Leeds never took 150k to London at all. They had that or bit more apply for tickets for that game. Forest had over 100k applications for their play off final too so they have pretty big support .
 
You cannot ignore their European or domestic success.

But.

That was a million years ago.

Compare them to this short list

1. Real Madrid
2. Barcelona
3. Bayern Munich
4. Man Utd
5. Man City
 
I am sorry but I do not understand. Surely there is only one big club on the whole world and we are so fortunate to be their near neighbours. What a club, what a ground, what a following. All dedicated supporters - a true and great example to all. Haway Ryhope CW!!

Bit surprised there isn't a deluded division 3 Pompey prick all over this one, tbh. I bet you had a few of those spanners on here from your time in the lower leagues (where they still are and belong)?

As for Forest, they're between big and medium aren't they? Derby are similar but actually have a slightly bigger fanbase. Leicester also very similar and have two won 2 pots recently before relegation. I don't think Leicester would have entered the discussion without those trophies, which probably goes to show that trophies kind of do influence these discussions and as such you can't really ignore Forest's two European cup wins.
