Yep I think a lot is down to the licensing, used to be meet in the local 6:30, couple of pints then into town or wherever, kicking out at 11 then onto a club for a late drink or whatever till 2You forgot one of the main reasons I believe for it, licensing hours.
Pubs used to shut at 11, todays culture means alot don't even turn out till then.
No wage rises in 15 year, where did you pluck that one from?
had happened to this wonderful town that used to be so vibrant on a Friday neet out ??
Looking back on the topper Friday nights out mid 90s to mid noughties, Finos , Brogans etc. Great days.
Now ? Fkn hell , it's desperate.
The Metro happened
Young 'uns stay in and have "pre drinks" these days, which is a f***ing stupid phrase. They don't head out til after midnight whereas, we used to meet at 6 and have a pub-crawl, before going to a club. There's no way bars can survive, just selling beer in town centres like ours these days.
Metro runs two ways tho, nothing stopping people going into Sunderland from other areas, rather than leaving from it, if it offered a good night outThe Metro happened
When I was a youngun we were always moaning that our taxes paid for the metro which only came as far as Heworth. We said how mad it was that they could have repurposed the old colliery line that ran past the Barnes and up to Silky. The Metro happened

Fuck knows, and regardless of drinking patterns and hours, towns like Sunderland and shields(even though it's always had the metro) have died on their arses regarding nights out in recent years. What could be done to sort that one out?

Yep, shields was a great night out in the 90s. I suppose if pubs could sell beer in greater volume, prices could be dropped to draw customers in and make profit through volume.Used to go to Shields early 90's, good night out, last time I went around 4 or 5 years ago it was like a ghost town.
Define "class"? There's 3 average bars, one of which is lifting now.
