CC: Leicestershire v Durham

A good day .... thanks to Bancroft and Lees. They obviously got their heads together before the innings started and agreed on a "where to take guard" strategy.

I'm not as bullish as Brandon, we can still go calypso collapso. However, there is hope and above all interest in the next two days.

Very positive going forward for Durham this. Think a lot of the batting problems have been mental ones, and compounded issues - openers being shit exposes middle order which makes them look shit, etc., but a good run of positive batting displays, regardless of the outcome of the match, will go a long way to improving a lot of the players we have

I wouldn’t go that far marra, I still expect us to be all out before Lunch .

But from here, we absolutely SHOULD post something competitive.

I think it comes down quite simply to Lees and Bancroft. They are far and away our best two batsmen. The ‘soft underbelly’ of our batting still exists massively from 3 to 7 and we are still capable of being bowled all out for under 300 tomorrow truth be told.

Much of what we’ve seen in recent weeks in terms of ‘turning the corner’ has either been runs from Bancroft or Lees (with a notable mention towards the grittiness of Eckersley).

Harte, Burnham and Clark need to step it up big time, hopefully tomorrow we see that from them. If not, I think the pack will need shuffling again for the visit of Worcestershire.

Completely agree on Bancroft and Lees. Two good batsmen is not enough to build a good team - hopeful talk of promotion either this year or next (!) is far away from where we are.

Of Harte, Burham and Clark - I haven't lost faith in the first two but I think Clark won't ever do enough, sadly. Richardson would be better at this point in time

Well done Bancroft and Lees
Lees needs to carry it on tomorrow
Like most people have said you cannot feel confident being a Durham supporter because of the fragility of the batting
Here’s hoping that the rest of the batting line up can make strong and positive contributions and not three or four ducks as is the case normally.
We normally have a quick cascade of clattering wickets.
Let’s hope this doesn’t happen

Undoubtedly, but I think a solid top order gives the middle order a better chance. Certainly better for Harte and Burnham to be coming in at 200-2 against the old ball than 0-2 against the new ball.

Would love to be optimistic here but to set a good target either Lees has to go really big or one of the middle order. Alternatively Lees goes early and all of the middle order chip in at 50 plus runs apiece, instead of the usual 4 wicket collapse.

What do we need here you reckon?

I agree

I also think it shows the merits of playing them in the right positions too though,

the temptation is to drop them down the order to break it up a bit, which Bancroft did a little bit

But he is an opener, Lees is an opener, specialist positions, play them there

Lees has dodgy moments but been a good signing, kind of just fitted him needing a change but also being a northern lad

Clark and Richardson need to go for me in the summer, and hopefulyl could use their wages, plus a little bit from our improved state to get some new lads in of similar stature

Burnham has been really poor but the club should be all about home grown, so he needs to be stuck with, I'd like him dropped down the order even more personally

Harte I am not convinced yet but done more than enough for some trust

Goes without saying, they’ll get their chance today against a ball that is 50 overs old. I reiterate my point that it’s time they stepped up.

A further 170 will be a tall order, but from the position we have now I’d be disappointed with anything less than a lead of 320.

I think anything over 250 gives us a chance, but really need 300+ lead. Hopefully we can get there, and get a few quick wickets when they bat again

238-1 lead is 143. Partnership for the second wicket is worth 51 - with Rimmington 27* the dominant partner. Lees is 90*.

Lees strangled down the legside for 93. 258-2 - lead is 163. Partnership was 71. Rimmington 40* is joined by Harte.
