Just noticed who is umpiring this game - Ian Blackwell. Our greatest spinner?

Remember Rocky was a kick in the backside off getting released because opening at the Riverside is so difficult in his early days. Collys championship record is pretty average when you consider what he achieved with England.
Also think of all the other outstanding batting prospects we have had who at England U19 level where considered the best batsmen in the country who failed miserably at the Riverside.

Absolutely right. Two Pratt’s, Nicky Peng and Michael Gough are prime examples of that.

Spot on Brandon lad and if you want to go back further you could have Robin Weston and even Jimmy Daley who may not have had the national recognition of some of the others but always looked a lovely batsmen.
 
What a bizarre turn around

Were we playing with blindfolds on yesterday? Or has the pitch turned into a complete road.

Shit aye, completely forgot Daley. He was widely tipped as an England prospect. I’ve absolutely no doubt if he’d have played at a more Southern County he would’ve ended up with bucketfuls of runs and plenty of hundreds.

Is Grace Road known for flattening out on Day 2, or something? Wondering if it will remain placid, or maybe do a bit in the 4th Innings. Anyway, it's been a remarkable (and very welcome) turnaround :)

Marty reckons the heavy roller has had a big impact, we asked for it after their first innings apparently. A lot of praise must be given to Bancroft and Lees though because they both batted out of their crease and looked to be positive early to nullify the low bounce.

As I type, one just kept low to Bancroft which he keeps out. Still think it’ll be difficult for any new batsman coming in.

If we get a lead of 350 I’ll fancy us mind ;)

Bet Rushy and co would love a bit variable bounce, and something decent to defend score-wise.
The ball that got Bancroft apparently kept quite low...
 
Makes you wonder. I suppose the pitch being the way it is is due to a combination of factors but it's yards from the river and before it was a cricket pitch it was an often waterlogged farmer's field.

Close: 191-1 - Lees 70*, Rimmington 4*.

Wonderful fightback from our lads today, right from the off really - the first session we bowled very well and very tight too. Didn’t let them get away from us, then with the bat, pretty much a perfect couple of sessions but for one that pitched and literally rolled into Bancroft’s middle stump.

Interesting too that wicketkeeper Hill decided to come up to the stumps literally for one ball, forcing Bancroft to take guard in his crease - I mentioned earlier how both openers were batting well out of their crease to nullify the variable bounce - that ball was the wicket.

Lead is 96, with nine wickets remaining going into tomorrow I’d like to think the lads that follow will employ similar tactics and enjoy similar success - if we can get the lead above 300 I think the game is in the bag. No reason why we can’t add a further 205 runs tomorrow with the batting that is to come.

Cracking fightback today. After that shocking start to the season Durham definitely showing signs they can at least be competitive. Not like some teams in the passed who's season would have collapsed after the first four championship matches.
