Durham.

On our doorstep and massively under appreciated.

We were on the piss through there recently and a couple of the lads said something like “never realised how much Durham had to offer. I’m bringing our lass for a day out”. Lads that have lived in Sunderland all their lives ffs
The Cathedral certainly is on its own.

I reckon that lot of Durham folk do fully appreciate what they have but nationally but there are also a lot who don't - and nationally, it isn't the first place on anyone's lips. Even though there isn't a better example in the country.

Always does well in polls in posh papers like the observer. Probably not so much the tabloids. The county of Durham itself is not well known nationally imo

Ravello overlooking the Amalfi Coast. Up a big height and eating seafood in a restaurant where the waiter pointed out that the fisherman in his little boat in the sea was the one who caught what we were eating just a few hours before. Then walking down the mountain on a winding path. Paradise.

loads of places, particularly beaches that i've stumbled across here and there... some almost deserted but whether i've been in the surf or just sat on the sand they've all been as spectacular as each other.

TV documentaries on tourist attractions. Visually stunning, celebrity guides, cheap and handy for the fridge.

Not sure if it's underrated but Iguazu Falls was something else. Loved it.
I think it's probably lesser known than underrated but I'd agree that it is absolutely stunning.

I'm going to throw Ullswater into the mix. There are some views of it that really are breathtaking. I actually swore out loud once when driving towards it and it came into view.

Part of problem for Escomb is that they built all those houses round it

Yeah, they're not attractive. The older buildings are lovely though. I know somebody who lives in the village and, when doing some work on their house, discovered a priest hole. The history of the place is very interesting.
