Would you accept no promotion?

Attendances would fall right off next year. As a squad we won't be stronger than this too

There’s a difference between accepting it and stopping supporting the club. Some fail to see the nuance in that.

Why on earth should it be accepted? We may as well wrap it all in if we just want to accept a standard that is way below our historical level
Who's 'accepting' it ? What the fuck can we do ? If anyone thinks protesting against the current board and manager given the shit storm they inherited will achieve anything other than break up any goodwill built up to now then they are mistaken. What's your solution if we fail to go up this season ?

It would be complete failure and the worst position the club has finished in its entire history. If the owners think we will 23k season tickets next season then they better think again, I was happy to fork out £1400 for 2 season cards for this season but not a chance I'll be doing that for another season in this division.

Understand what your saying as i felt same way for first months of season.
We were winning and team was putting effort in and celebrating with fans.
All was rosey. But after last night and many other games this season i am sick of watching us play teams full of rugby/basketball players kicking the ball as high n as far as possible trying to get free kicks around our box.
No real football being played by them.
Time wasting to the extreme .
Its now got boring for me as we cant play against them and find it too hard to play our game against.
So please get promoted safc .asap.

Absolutely laughable that after spending over 73% of the total transfer spend for the division, anything other than promotion isn’t being seen as an abject failure by some.

There will be three teams coming down from the championship too which logically will be stronger than you currently are.

"Would you accept no promotion"? I think we might have to.

If it turns out this way, as is beginning to seem the most likely, what other choice is there but acceptance?

There's 16/17 games to go man! do people really think that the likes of Luton (who have been playing out of their skin) will continue to dominate until the end of the season?.....it's highly unlikely that will happen and we will get our chances.

We're currently in a lengthy bad patch and yet still can't lose a game, even when it looks inevitable and that has to count for something.

It's sad to see that some fans look to have given up when we're still in with a great chance of promotion.....there's a long way to go yet so chin up, chest out and let's scrap for it.

Been going to the game 25 years mate do nah not my first game . The better players like mcgeady , gooch , watmore, honeyman , Baldwin , McLaughlin will be away if we don’t go up, other clubs will snap then up
The first 4 you mention are players who were were premier league players less than 2 years ago, transfer windows have come and gone yet here they are in league 1 , if anyone wanted them they'd be gone same as Maja and Asoro. Watmore has an excuse due to his injuries but on last night's performance and other recent cameos it doesn't look like he's ever going to realise that there are other players awaiting a pass. You want to see McGeady in the side because you know he has proved himself at a much higher level than this but when he gets the ball our forward momentum stops while he does a turn or carries it sideways, allowing the opposition to pack their defence, then if he doesn't lose possession it's often an over hit cross. As for Gooch and Honeyman I'm still waiting for either to show consistency , it's only due to the fact that we are dropping down the divisions that they have had so much game time , they wouldn't have been near the first team before the Moyes disaster era. FTM

Accept third tier mediocrity? I’d sooner see us liquidated
You nearly got that last year

If we don’t go up this season, there’ll be no-one left next. Well no-one you would want. The promising young ones would be gone, anyone who performed this season would be gone. We’d be left with Ozturk, Loovens and Wyke.
The players you say would leave would have already left if there was any clubs willing to take them. Last summer we would have sold any of them to make the club solvent. If they do leave it’ll be because their contracts have run out.

In all fairness we need to keep all of what’s happening in context. I don’t see what the new owners could of done differently. They brought in a manager who most thought was a good appointment and in fairness backed him to the hilt with regards to bringing players in. I just hope it ends well for all concerned.

We'd have to, what's the other option? Boo hoo-ing about it won;t achieve anything.
Spot on mate.

The thread asked if we should accept no promotion. We may have to tolerate it but we shouldn’t just accept it and downplay the failure. If we don’t go up then supporters, represented by fanzines with access to the owners and journalists, should start asking more probing questions of the current owners, our recruitment strategy, our managers performance, the limitations of our squad and why they weren’t addressed etc.

Hopefully it won’t come to that and we go up, but if we don’t, we shouldn’t just ‘accept’ where we are and go along merrily with everything as we have done so far this year, where a lot of mistakes or performances have either been brushed over and justified on the situation inherited. The inherited situation is a mitigating factor for this season but it shouldn’t be a complete justification of failing to go up if indeed we don’t.

When we were relegated last season then the new buyer came in they talked a lot of sense about people not taking the p1ss any more and us moving up.

I thought great, a chance to look to the future. Bring some young lads through, consolidate our place in League 1 and sign some young lads permanently. Using the lads we had left from the past as the experience to bring the younger ones on. Cattermole, Oviedo, Matthews, McGeady, etc.

Then I feel like we’ve missed a great opportunity to rebuild the right way. We’ve set off on a journey to chase promotion at the earliest opportunity at all costs. Grigg signed pretty much confirms this.

If you had a choice would you like a slow rebuild if we done it right, possibly not getting promotion this year. Maybe staying in this League 2/3 seasons. Or would you rather we made the current ilk of signings to get promotion this year?

I’d even hoped we’d be offered the chance to buy shares ourselves to gove the supporters a seat at the table, even 5/10 percent would have been nice.
No
