Would you accept no promotion?

If it happens, what choice do we have?
Can only assume some will just give up but that's their right ! They'll probably come back when we are promoted ! Others will definitely come back if we are promoted to the PL. Happens with every club but the core will remain just a 'little' smaller

When we were relegated last season then the new buyer came in they talked a lot of sense about people not taking the p1ss any more and us moving up.

I thought great, a chance to look to the future. Bring some young lads through, consolidate our place in League 1 and sign some young lads permanently. Using the lads we had left from the past as the experience to bring the younger ones on. Cattermole, Oviedo, Matthews, McGeady, etc.

Then I feel like we’ve missed a great opportunity to rebuild the right way. We’ve set off on a journey to chase promotion at the earliest opportunity at all costs. Grigg signed pretty much confirms this.

If you had a choice would you like a slow rebuild if we done it right, possibly not getting promotion this year. Maybe staying in this League 2/3 seasons. Or would you rather we made the current ilk of signings to get promotion this year?

I’d even hoped we’d be offered the chance to buy shares ourselves to gove the supporters a seat at the table, even 5/10 percent would have been nice.

Yes and id buy a season tckt

Promotion is a must. Things will get worse if in seasons to come if we don't go up as players will move on and others won't want to come. The signing of Grigg for me is a worrying development. If Wigan didn't want him should we really be paying £4m to drop him down a division? Worse still we've done that moving on an aspiring youngster who was scoring goals and leading our early season charge.

Sadly this thread stems from the nosedive we are going through. Yes we're not losing but performances have gone down fast and for the squad we have they are nowhere near good enough. I'm not sure we can turn this around as it's been going on for months now and the games will fly by. Possibly sneaking up via the play offs is our only chance - but I wouldn't back us to beat a top 6 side over 2 legs come May sadly.

Absolutely laughable that after spending over 73% of the total transfer spend for the division, anything other than promotion isn’t being seen as an abject failure by some.

There will be three teams coming down from the championship too which logically will be stronger than you currently are.

Sunderland spend beyond their equal share to secure promotion = spending a fortune

Newcastle spend beyond their equal share to secure promotion = Rafa's net spend tho

Absolutely laughable indeed.....

What other choice do we have, will I be happy about it will I fuck, we have enough in that dressing room to get out of this league, but if we don't well I give them 5 years to get us back to the premier league, just means I was right not to expect instant miracles.

No and I don’t think anyone should accept it.

I fully understand the mess that we were in and I appreciate the efforts from everyone to get the club moving in the right direction again. However, look at the squad that we have .... that team absolutely has to get promoted.

Everyone keeps saying that, but a lot of our players are quite similar

We have no pace, power, height

I have no idea why this wasn't addressed as the owner even admitted it in the summer.

We must be living in some parallel universe where it was thought of by some that Newcastle failing to get promotion in season 2016/17 would have been considered anything but a massive failure.

We'd have had to have spent over £410m that season to have the same share you have spent this season.

No one is saying otherwise.

I've simply pointed out your stunning hypocrisy which naturally you've ignored, as is your way.

I know, I couldn't believe it either carty.

What hypocrisy? I'm saying that spending over 73% and failing to get promoted would be a massive failure, just as us spending our around 18% share in 2016/17 and failing to get promoted would have been a massive failure.

We were accused of buying the league with our comparatively meagre share of our league spending for that season, so what is spending a share nearly quadruple in size?

I’ve certainly not advocated the removal of the manager. I think that would be lunacy, particularly this season. I think he’s starting to show he’s feeling the pressure mind and it’s always unwise making barbed remarks to journalists when questioned about tactics and when asked about disgruntled supporters.

What I meant by not accepting it means that I don’t think it’s acceptable for us to be in this division. It shouldn’t be expected that we spend any longer than one season in this division. We never have in the past and I’d say this season there’s probably a bigger gulf between us and the rest of the teams in the league (certainly financially and facilities wise) than the last time we were in this division.

Couple of good posts you've made there. I still think we can get out of this league and really we should do, I don't think staying in this division would be "acceptable", much though there's obviously nowt we could do about it. I'd still renew, I wouldn't boo the players, I wouldn't want Ross or Donald gone and wouldn't be abusing them, but I'd be pretty pissed off. This squad should have more than enough to win this division, let alone get second or have the further safety net of a play off. We've got some with PL experience, we've got youngsters from a very good academy, we've got a player in Leadbitter who could still easily be playing in the league above (as could McGeady), we've got players who have won the league before, we've spent more than anyone else and brought in a proven goal scorer in this league. Anything other than promotion would be an utter failure no matter how much some are now trying to pretend it wouldn't be.

Said the other day, I genuinely think our second eleven should have a chance of play offs. A side of:
Ruiter
Hume (I know he's been injured like)
Oviedo
Flanagan
Ozturk
Morgan
Maguire
Cattermole
McGeouch
O'Nien
Wyke/ Watmore

That's not exactly a bad side for this level but like I say could easily be seen as our second eleven. So not only have we spent a lot, got good academy players etc, we've even got good strength in depth, my second eleven would be missing one of Wyke/ Watmore, as well as Sterling and Mumba, you'd still have the dubious benefit of the experienced Loovens as well. Not going up would be a massive failure. Long way to go yet though, any promotion, however it is achieved, would represent job done for this season

As I say crack on with ignoring the glaringly obvious, it's what you do.

If we don’t go up this season the crowds will take a huge hit. Many won’t renew as this league is absolutely turgid and we simply shouldn’t be down here.

I did not renew this season and will definitely not renew again until we’re back in the championship.
