Would you accept no promotion?

I think the rebuild to date has been done well, we have an excellent squad without spending mental money and Grigg is simply a replacement for a striker we could end up with a similar fee for.......This squad will get promotion, if not this year then next although tonights tactical change suggests it will be this to me.

How d'you not accept promotion?
This ^ I assume these people are just going to stop supporting Sunderland ? We lost many when we dropped out of the PL I assume we'll lose a few more who came back on board expecting a procession back to the championship then probably another one to the PL. I honestly think we are still a season away from dominating this league.

Accept third tier mediocrity? I’d sooner see us liquidated
Dear f***ing me

We need to go up, the novelty has wore off now.

Imagine another year of these officials and these shithouse clubs who feign injury and time waste from the first minute.

What a dreadful proposition.

Sadly feigning injury and time wasting goes on at every level in football, for some reason we aren't and never seem to have been able to do it otherwise we might not be conceding late equalisers in recent matches. It's shit but as the saying goes - if you can't beat 'em, join 'em ....... FTM

There’s a difference between accepting it and stopping supporting the club. Some fail to see the nuance in that.

Why on earth should it be accepted? We may as well wrap it all in if we just want to accept a standard that is way below our historical level

I won't "accept" it , but I won't throw my toys out the pram if we don't go up. This club needs stability and a long term plan. If it means a couple of seasons in L1 then so be it

This.

The owners expectations/hopes at the start of the season were that we would be in contention for the playoffs bearing in mind we have had to rebuild both management and playing sides of the club. Promotion was a hope rather than expectation.

Our form early on with the good run got everyone excited about going up but now we have hit a flat spot some if us are losing sight of the bigger picture. I was seriously fearing us doing a Coventry or Pompey has Short still been in charge this season.

Not getting promoted this year would mean defo having to shift Cattermole, McGeady & Oviedo in the summer due to their wages, but we should still have a squad more than capable of mounting a promotion push if we don’t do it this year.

Personally I’d rather build things a bit slower. Get some younger players in we can build a squad around.

With the current recruitment we’ll struggle in the championship as these players who have been around this league a while are unlikely to make the step up.

When we were relegated last season then the new buyer came in they talked a lot of sense about people not taking the p1ss any more and us moving up.

I thought great, a chance to look to the future. Bring some young lads through, consolidate our place in League 1 and sign some young lads permanently. Using the lads we had left from the past as the experience to bring the younger ones on. Cattermole, Oviedo, Matthews, McGeady, etc.

Then I feel like we’ve missed a great opportunity to rebuild the right way. We’ve set off on a journey to chase promotion at the earliest opportunity at all costs. Grigg signed pretty much confirms this.

If you had a choice would you like a slow rebuild if we done it right, possibly not getting promotion this year. Maybe staying in this League 2/3 seasons. Or would you rather we made the current ilk of signings to get promotion this year?

I’d even hoped we’d be offered the chance to buy shares ourselves to gove the supporters a seat at the table, even 5/10 percent would have been nice.
No promotion! No way, I've paid hundreds on season ticket and travelling away like thousands of others. They just have to up their game, ie. Closing teams down and not giving them acres of space to play around in, then just maybe we will move up into a automatic spot.

A settled team would help. I don’t think JR knows his best team and because of the chopping and changing we aren’t getting a chance to gel.

You lose a few thousand from the crowd when people vote with their feet for a start. Do you think we’d get the same crowds next season if we don’t go up?
Probably not but if were to go top of the league it would bring them back.

I'd hate to have another season in League 1, but in lots of ways promotion would (I think) disguise the fact that the club is nowhere near 'over' the last decade of failure. We're a work in progress and mistakes will still be made in the learning process. Time and patience are the commodities in shortest supply...

I was asking the people on here what they would to show they won't accept it. My guess is that if they have season tickets they will get them again. I'd be interested in what the people on this thread would do in not accepting it.
I’d replay the whole season on football manager. If at that point we’re not promoted season card is going in the bin
