Maybe, I think the club wanted to sell him this window as soon as he didn't sign a contract.
Why would he be better off going at the end of the season?
He was on course for 25 - 30 goals, he might, just might have been worth more, and more clubs would be interested in him.

He was just making a name for himself why pack up now, when he could have had a few clubs to choose from?

The tantrums on here are f***ing embarrassing. His goals got us into a position of going up. He wants to play for a better team in a better league and improve his game. Good luck Josh! Ignore the tossers.
Ok brother of maja

Or he could have only scored 3/4 goals and all the interest dries up. Or he could score 10 goals for Bordeaux and have even more interest. Who knows, which he had stayed really enjoyed watching him play.

I know what you mean but I don’t think he needs to waste his time issuing regular updates at the minute mate.

His time will be better spent making sure we get these deals over the line.

Any update would be best saved until the window closes.
I totally agree but I think he gets an itchy finger if he sees negatively, hopefully he keeps to his word and he backs Ross with what he wants

Why is it that people’s default position is to treat the club as being the enemy? Why does it have to be us vs them?

Is this a legacy from Short or has it always been like this?

As far as I’m aware the new owners have given us no reason to distrust them so much as yet so why assume they’re lying to us? They’ve far more at stake and stand to benefit far more from the club doing well than any of us so why assume their motives are otherwise and anything more sinister?

I don’t think anyone is suggesting their motives are sinister.

We’ve got new owners in that we know very little about. It will be a while before we will really know if what they have said is honesty.

There’s also some people who don’t believe they will ever make a single error and also people who are overcritical so they clash and things get blown out of proportion.

In reality there will be things they want us to know and things they don’t want us to know. That’s normal. There’s also things they will get right and things they won’t. Again this is normal.

There’s nothing wrong with disagreeing or criticizing certain things they do, nor is it wrong to defend them for certain things. It is however wrong to criticise them for everything they do, or defend them for everything they do.

I’ve been happy with what they have done so far especially in terms of reconnecting fans with the club, with help from a PR guru, it must be said. I think The Ndong/Papy/Rodwell issues have been handled well and been happy with other things.

I’ve criticised them so far in how this window has gone and I’ve said that selling Maja this window would be a good indicator of their intentions this season, which has disappointed me. There’s still time left of course but there’s an enormous amount of pressure on them now to get two deals done in 5 days that they couldn’t get 1 done in 26, and now when we have no striker and are desperate.

Would he suddenly have stopped scoring, like?
Is his confidence that fragile?

Give ower

No idea, he could get injured, he could have a bad run, can happen. He could go and score goals at Bordeaux and be in a far better position, he could not play a game but he would still get a move back here and probably be in not much worse a position.

Good post. Do you have Twitter though? There’s plenty on there suggesting to Donald that his motives are on the sinister side (asset stripping, lying etc). I have seen several on here suggesting the same too.

Can't understand the froth here.

Maja was obviously going to leave. That's basically how an agent makes his best money.
The move to Bordeaux is the one which will suit the agent best. This happens all the time, especially with young players.

Wish him all the best in his career.

Up to the management and recruitement to replace his goals now, which is a big task but not impossible.
In fairness, regardless of how you feel about the lad, all Sunderland fans should be doing the same.

The likelihood is that with the fee clauses and conditions, the better he does the more money we’ll get in the future.

I'm starting to subscribe to this way of thinking tbh. If we go up he'll have been a huge part of it. Just a shame we're not going to see the money strengthening the team.

Of all the clubs, it had to be one we're in debt to.

There were people on here and elsewhere who accused Ellis Short of asset stripping on his way to losing £200m!
All clubs have their share of supporters who are fairly thick. We are certainly no exception.

I’ve got twitter but to be honest I never look at comments people make on posts like that because it’s generally just people calling each other names.

Not seen anyone saying asset stripping but this half the time is just slang for selling all our players (even though that isn’t actual asset stripping). I do think he probably does lie (or at least over embellishes the truth) but he has to. Again that’s normal. Everyone in business lies to a degree. I wouldn’t personally class lieing itself as sinister, unless it was of course to hide something that was sinister.

Time to move on. Maja is history, I wish him well and thank him for his goals this season. What’s important now is what we do before the window closes to replace him.

I also notice the club has made a very, very brief statement on safc.com

Josh Maja has completed a move to Bordeaux.

The 20-year old Sunderland AFC academy graduate has joined the French Ligue 1 side on a permanent basis.

No thanks or good luck ....
