New Music Releases Thread

Aye, it's mostly the stuff that doesn't get to Metacritic for me - Deep Dark Woods, Paul Major, Band of Holy Joy, the Parquet Courts thing etc. Baxter Dury's album should be interesting as well. Also, Julien Baker...

All about Baxter Dury for me. The singles have been great as are his previous albums.
On a separate note. Anybody off to see Moonlandingz in Brixton in a few weeks by any chance ??

Perhaps one for @James but I heard some young Dutch/Kurdish girl called Naaz recently. She classifies it as 'quirkpop' (shudder) and she apparently produces the tunes as well, a hint of old Mount Kimbie in the production at times for me. I like it but may be a bit too poppy for some!

I wish Weezer would just stop making music. First two albums are brilliant.
I saw them in Leeds this week. They were great. First time I've seen them despite getting the Blue album when it came out in 1994. They played some new songs and they sounded great. It was a brilliant night, the crowd were so up for it.

I am spending the weekend sweating the small stuff so you don't have to... thus far:

Baxter Dury: a tad brief at 9 mins. Very good though...
The Paul Major compilation: well that's just ace! random vaguely pysch-folk tracks he;s found on his travels. I think it's related to his book.
Band of Holy Joy: normal service resumes.
Ed Askew: well, he's one weirdly eceentric elderly eccentric weirdo. Has it's moments.
Deep Dark Woods: this is the bunny! Wonderful Americana. @Mick Dundee give it a listen...

Was going to post exactly same thing about Baxter Dury. I've only listened to it twice and really like it.
My discovery of the week is the new ajohn Maus album. Really good 80's sounding synth.

New / first single released by Alien Stadium called this ones for the humans.
It's the colab between Steve Mason ( beta band ) and Martin Duffy ( primal scream ).
If you like either of the above then you'll like this I reckon. It's great imo. Album to follow 1st Dec.

That John Maus album is excellent. Bizarre, obviously, and something of an acquired taste but excellent. Over the last couple of days, I've also listened to:

Out Lines: a supergroup of sorts involving James Graham (singer of The Twilight Sad), Kathryn Joseph (winner of Scottish album of the year 2015 and Marcus Mackay (producer of many Scottish albums). Their album is very good! A bit post-rock, a bit folk, a bit duets between two distinctive vocalists over sinisterness. Probably the best thing that James Graham has been involved in since Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters.
Julien Baker: her second album, no great departure from her debut for the most part (maybe a slightly fuller sound?). Pretty good.
Martin Carr: ex-Boo Radleys man in 7/10 album shocker. It's decent but nothing stands out.
Adrian Crowley: This is wonderful! He's made 8 albums plus the one he made with James Yorkston a few years ago, which is well worth seeking out but this is the first solo album I've listened to (must seek out earlier releases). Reminds me a bit of Bill Callahan and, to a degree, Matt Berninger in terms of vocal style. In 2005, Ryan Adams called him the best songwriter that nobody's heard of (that comes from wikipedia). He's from an Irish folkish background but this goes well beyond the F word. Early days yet and it needs more listens but may make my yearly top 7.6 albums.
