Lidl versus Aldi

Only pop in now and then if, never seems any different to other supermarket own brands.

I suppose some people like them because you can't be tempted spend more to 'upgrade' from the own brand basic range, to the own brand, then the branded, then the extra special sort.

I get my meat from butchers anyway
Im not even talking brand match. Some of their own brands dont match other supermarket own brands (like the bleach). Their crisps are the same price as other own brands & of similar standard. Their bog roll was useless compared to what i get in farm foods for less. Its entirely hit and miss and no different to supermarket own brands which themselves can be as good as brands and some less so. But this idea that 'theyre like brands but for less' is a bit dishonest really
Not really relevant then.

You don't shop there imo.

:lol::lol:

I dont go there because i get 1 thing elsewhere

Youre on a wind up now.

Theres 3 or 4 others on this thread echoing my comments.

I buy cheese and tinned tuna from there for example as theyre things ive found decent. But come on.....you just blindly wont believe that some of their stuff just isnt very good.

I didn't say everything is as good, but my point stands.

Top picks for me
Cheese buns
Protein buns
Deluxe coleslaw
Nag sori rice (big slab of special fried rice )
All cold meats
Wasabi nuts
Fresh fish (wops asda price )
Frozen pizza 3 pack (less than 3 quid and lovely )
Own brand magnums
Own Cheerios
Own Snickers
Concentrated juice
Deluxe frozen chips
Chewy
All the cheap as chips Cien personal hygiene stuff
I prefer their cold meats definitely ( Lidl over Sainsbury's).

Haha well and truly, the other day I saw a woman pick up a bun, give it good squeeze then dump it back in the basket and laugh at her fella. No need.

I saw a kid about 12 pick a cookie up and then choose a bigger one. Followed him til he got to the till and made him buy the two or he wasn't getting served with the one. I try and do it with every scratter who does it tbh. Made a point of making a dad buy a bloomer coz his kid had picked it up and took it to the trolley to be told "nor gan purrit back man". They tried dumping it further up the aisle but again, told them buy it or you aren't getting served. It's common decency and hygiene.

10.5% so bloody good at 3.33 a bottle.

I have 24 bottles in for wife's birthday party..

It will be one of those deals where they only have 20 cases per store per day...

Good headlines but reality a bugger to get hold of

They're the same as any of our discount weekend deals - 6 units per customer.

What was your point again?
Another thing i get from aldi is bacon as theyre the only place ive seen the medalion style stuff without the fat.
I accept their fresh stuff can be decent but in my experience its the processed stuff and toiletries that are just not very good. And the savings arent as big as claimed which has been proven by the advertising standards agency.

Think on this, it was sainsburys who got a clean bill of health in the horse meat scandel. Aldi didnt.

It must be just a mirage then...

You're right about not selling everything ,wrong on the rest .For a lot of your shop people don't need brand names .If you want top brands on everything you buy you'll never save money anywhere .Asda etc have now started doing rip off Snickers bars etc copying Lidl.

No, I was meaning Aldi and Lidl advertising makes them look a lot cheaper. Like they'll compare their own brand digestives with McVities digestives rather than the supermarket own brand equivalent and so on, so making themselves look a lot cheaper. If they compared their price to supermarket digestives, they'd be pretty much the same.

I was curious as to who was the cheapest. I've done an average weekly shop at Aldi before, then put everything I bought into MySupermarket. On own brand stuff, all of the stores were within a pound or two of each other and nobody was significantly cheaper.

You can save money on brands if you shop around. There are a few branded items that I really like but they are always on offer somewhere. I use MySupermarket when I need to buy them and find out who has the best offer on.
