Lidl versus Aldi

ive got 2 litres of Aperol in as it happens

I really do wonder how they get away with some fo the packaging and names of many of the products

must have an army of lawyers
Maybe you could get a bitterol too and compare responses off your guests?
I'm running a party soon and liked the sound of the aperol spritzers, Bitterol (hha ha at name) is getting good reviews and is around £7 for 70cl. The best I've seen Aperol for is £10 for 70cl (Amazon prime) or £12 upwards otherwise. I'm tempted by Bitterol.

They seem very aggressive with their store locations. Seems they deliberately build store near each other.
We use Aldi because its local and was the only supermarket near us. Now Lidl are building a store maybe 300 yards across the road.

i' trying to run the aperol down.

Stocked up on various Gins and Fever tree tonics too

I have enough booze in to get 200 people fully pissed

a lot of the fruit and veg does seem to turn a day or two quicker I find from Aldi and Lidl...

I use all the supermarkets depending on how I feel and if I know one stocks something that the others don't I'll just stockup on it myself

One of the discounters does get supermarket seconds. I once had to do a compliance job looking for pineapples with a supermarket cardboard tag on as someone had forgot to remove them before they went to the discounter - ooops! Yes I know my job is so exciting at times

I've tried them a few times but never really noticed much difference in the total price.

I play the loyalty card offers with the others. Currently working through a sheet of £8 off a £40 spend vouchers at Tesco. Bought some odds and ends at Sainsbury's the other day and that spat out a £10 off a £50 online shop. Will do that as either free click and collect or in a £1 delivery slot. Not been in Morrisons for a couple of weeks so will probably get a voucher next time I buy odds and ends.

Defo snob ;) World of difference in price like. Our weekly food bill is 30% cheaper than when we used to go to Asda and we get the shopping in half the time. Short 'best before' dates on some veg is the only complaint.

Our Lidl bakery is excellent! (Never been to Aldi). Lidl's croissants are about half the price of Sainsbury's and are equally as nice if not better.

No bakery in Aldi at all, only thing is they get bits and bobs for home and garden (branded) at good prices, the fruit and veg is slightly better but still doesn't last as long as the big name supermarkets.
Not missing much not going to Aldi imo, Lidl is a canny choice now regardless of what the food snobs say but we still need to go to a UK supermakert for certain things every week.

No aldi here but lidl is spot on - bakery, meat (for a supermarket), cooked meats and everyday items like milk, eggs etc. Still have to go to tesco, billa or albert for toiletries and other bits and pieces mind. Always use the local butcher for the Sunday joint aswell

There both cheap, that's why there food is awful.

It seems to be 30/50% cheaper than m&s / sainsbury etc. Some stuff won't be upto m&s / sainsbury standards but choc, milk, beef, tea, coffee, breakfast items, wine, beer, cleaning items, toiletries etc all seem decent quality plus others no doubt.

Tesco recently failed in their overseas expansion.....

no they haven't..

only in the States and even then they had turned a corner but decided to pull it

from Wiki

Tesco has expanded its operations outside the UK to 11 other countries in the world. Tesco pulled out of the USA in 2013, but continues to see growth elsewhere. Tesco's international expansion strategy has responded to the need to be sensitive to local expectations in other countries by entering into joint ventures with local partners, such as Samsung Group in South Korea (Samsung-Tesco Home plus), and Charoen Pokphand in Thailand (Tesco Lotus), appointing a very high proportion of local personnel to management positions. It also makes small acquisitions as part of its strategy: for example, in its 2005/2006 financial year it made acquisitions in South Korea, one in Poland and one in Japan.[2]
