so when i go to see it am i allowed to then post about any historical inaccuracies i might find??

scoured the trailers to see if i could spot any but am impressed so far - all spits seem to have an oil cooler under only 1 wing which is always a good sign
In more or less the last scene there are some container cranes in the background.
It's a very good film though.

It as a good program. I saw it on TV. However there was, I THINK, flim-flam in its marketing.

I was born in 1944, so at school I was taught by teachers who included survivors from WWII. Some echoed the "absent RAF" thing. But lots of others knew that the RAF lads were fighting inland to keep the Panzers from the beaches. Others realised that the dog fights above the beaches were too high to see.

The BBC presented that as something unknown in these islands. Not by my generation.

yeah, i guess the thinking was once the bombers had reached the beach it was already too late to stop them so they targeted them inland.

My grandfather was evacuated form Dunkirk but he was with the RAF and he never talked about it (think the RAF had a tough time) but was proud to be a member of the Dunkirk veterans association. Looking forward to this one. Read a good article about how it was a WWII movie without the Americans in it and then suggested a movie about the Falklands would be a good choice, however the danger with that is Mrs Thatcher being turned into a Winston Churchill-esque leader, when in reality the Falklands could have been a complete disaster.

Me too. Me grandad was at Dunkirk. Rip.
So was mine. Served on a hospital ship. The Luftwaffe repeatedly attempted to dive bomb it.

There were troops left behind who had to be a rear guard.
I'm not knocking the troops in any way, just the leadership and strategists.

We celebrate an escape.
I wonder why Hitler halted the panzer divisions when he did? They would have annihilated or captured the majority of the BEF.

I had a quick look it appears to be most likely that his generals feared an allied attack from a vulnerable flank.

The other explanation was that hitler tried to sweeten us up in order to get us to accept terms but there isn't much if any evidence.

@Frijj posted this way back in may

That might help @Big Duke Six with his question

my 2 just been to see it , said it was brilliant got in for Nowt as she works in the Odeon said she will take me next week
Has nobody told her the Odeon has been closed since the eighties when they turned it into Bailey and Bentleys?

What she thought was a war film was real life action chuckie out time at the Beehive.

My great grandfather died in Dunkirk, just been to see it and it's a very special film indeed. I don't think there is a finer actor on the planet than Mark Rylance.
