Anyone had the old camera up the bum?

Is it as unpleasant as I imagine?
Its actually not as bad as I expected, down the throat is much, much more unpleasant. At least they give you gas and air when it goes up the hoop and you can watch what is going on, on the telly. The worst part of the up the bum bit was when he came to a bend in my bowel and took the Audi driver approach in cutting the corner, which jammed me up and I had to move into a different position to allow access! Other than that it wasn't too bad. the 20 minute recovery session is quite amusing too, all you can hear is loads of different farts coming from all of the cubicles.

The throat is horrible like. I was chuffed initially as, just like our lass, I swallowed it first time but I then caught site of the Dr from the corner of my eye and he looked like he was feeding a f***ing hose pipe down my throat! This caused an involuntary reaction and I gagged and spewed, not nice. Anyway, got it done, they turned the trolley around, wiped down the equipment and shoved it up me arse. I'm glad they did it in that order. Nowt to worry about though.

I've been told they're definitely planning to take biopsies. I was told I wouldn't get the results of those on the day, obviously, but they'd be able to tell me if they found any polyps or tumours etc. on the day. Will have to bring someone to remember what they say
That's what they found on one of the occasions I had it. I watched them remove it with the camera. I asked if it was cancer and they said they didn't know. It came back later clear. My wife came with me. It's uncomfortable at the time but I was fine the evening after. Don't worry mate had it done about six times. You will be fine.

What's the crack with them telling you what they've found? Hardly seems ideal if I'm barely conscious to have someone tell me what they've found? What if I forget?

They told me straight after the first one. They said it was ulcerative colitis, gave me some leaflets and a prescription for some steroids and special anti inflammatories. They go through your stomach undigested and dissolve in your colon which is where all my problems are. It was at the next consultant appointment when they had the biopsies back that they decided it was crohns.

Also had polyps off. If they see any, they just snip them off while they're in there. They have all been harmless.

I've had IBS since I was 17 but it suddenly got a lot worse in 2015 and didn't respond to my normal meds so they did the camera and I got the crohns diagnosis.

It's pretty much under control now. I'm a bit iffy first thing in a morning but apart from that I barely notice I've got it now. I just take care to eat properly and not over do things or get stressed and run down as that makes it flare. Been away for a few days so I've been eating different food and drinking local tap water but I've not had any ill effects.

Diagnosed with Crohns/UC when I was 13. They couldn't decide what it was, so treated it as Crohns as apparently the treatment for that covered more bases.
Now, 20+ years on it's diagnosed as UC and I have to take Pentasa forever, basically (occasionally Prednisolone when I have a flare-up).
I'm pretty fortunate in that I can eat and do anything I want and rarely have a proper flare-up - last one was more than 5 years ago.

Have the camera crew rooting around up there every three years and I'm pretty used to it now. A bit uncomfortble but not too bad. I actually quite enjoy watching it on the screen - strangely calming than if you couldn't see what was happening.
The new unit at the Sunderland Royal is fantastic and incredibly efficient compared to the old place. Staff are terrific as well.

First dose of Movieflex or whatever the f***ing stuff is called in 3 hours. Will be doing live updates for anyone who wishes to read.

If its the one that tastes of cloves its f***ing rancid, made me wretch several times, I only just managed to get it down before I potentially threw it back up again . This year I'm requesting Picolax or Citrafleet which both tasted okay and cleaned me out faster than the other stuff did .

Nee bother, weird set up though as normally you take the senna at 8am, then your first sachet of stuff about 12/1pm and the 2nd sachet about 5/6pm so that you can finally stop crapping water by about 11pm and get yourself to bed :D.

I've been told to take one at 7pm tonight (doing it slightly earlier for that exact reason) and one 7am tomorrow, for a mid afternoon appointment tomorrow.

Getting some canny adverts at the bottom of the page on this thread.

Aye, probably for the best, as sometimes it can take about 4 hrs for the 1st sachet to kick in .

I just drink whatever shite they give me and feel thankful I'm not paying for the privilege personally - god bless the NHS
