Sharm el Sheik in February?

Wouldn't go to Sharm again if you paid me. Unless you like sterile atmosphere free hotels, getting the shits( you will, everyone does), nothing to do outside the hotel unless you dive and fat, pissed, aggressive Russians wearing bum bags, shouting and balling at each other at all ours and speaking to the staff like shit, i suggest you avoid the place too.

Went to Egypt three or four years ago, the kids picked it, although it was nice I would never go back.
The Egyptian folk were terrible, especially in that god forsaken market that stinks of burning shite.
I'm the king of Egypt as well because I won mr Egypt in the hotel.
Shit hole.

I always like to go somewhere hot in feb/Mar as that is when the dark and cold begin to kill me.

I've done Cape Verde and Canaries. I wanted to do Gambia but can only find flights on a Thursday.

So will Sharm be warm enough to enjoy a swim in mid Feb?
Windy as fook.

tend to agree, there was some very nasty elements lurking there last time I visited, luckily there was a considerable UN presence plus egyptian army which was onside at the time and Saudi's believe it or not, you'll know about their links to the US

i stayed at the base, which is on the Sharm side of naama bay. the base has it's own small beach, which was handy. there was only one or two hotels at the time and no civilian airport. we had to get the bus down from cairo, which was an experience in itself.

Caribbean?
Southern hemisphere?
Qatar?

Me and the Mrs have been to Gambia about 5 times.
We go if we have a couple of weeks spare in January, and don't want to go too far for a relatively short time.
It is the nearest tropical place, just over 6 hours due South from London.
Not a lot to see, relaxing, we go to Sanyang beach away from the tourists.
In fact, there are day trips from the more touristy areas to Sanyang to get away from it all.
I walked South from there, at dawn one Sunday morning for 8 miles along the beach and only saw 2 people.
There can be a fair bit of hassle in the touristy parts, away from that, people are great.
We stay at Rainbow Lodge at Sanyang, about £10 a night if you contact them directly, a lot more on Agoda.
You should try it, however the political situation is very unstable at the moment, speculation of invasion to oust the fuckwitty president.
I would wait until the day when he is supposed to hand over power and see what happens.
Or go next year, but definitely go.
Finally, it is a very moderate Muslim country with absolutely no Islamic terrorism associated with it at all.
However, it only takes one event for it to become off limits, and sadly, the way of the world at the moment mean that there are increasingly more of these random acts of terrorism.
Go sooner, rather than later.

Didn't realise they'd resumed flights to Sinai mind. That's great news for the tourist industry there if true. Lots of dive operators have been really struggling recently.

I'd be tempted to look at Hurghada and Marsa Alam myself (mainly because they're nicer than Sharm anyway, and the diving is brilliant). Never been this time of year, went to Dahab in april and it was roasting (30) but the water will still quite cold to dive in.

Haway man. Common sense surely tells you to go nowhere near such a place ATM. Its like people booking up to go to Turkey. Must be mad.

I'd love to go to Africa like. There is a place in Eritrea called Asmara, which still has all of the old 1930's style buildings that the Italians built. They look class. It was on the way to becoming a UN city of cultural importance (summat like that). Not sure what the latest update is. This is a brilliant article from The Guardian about Asmara:

I went to Gambia as part of the Plymouth to Banjul challenge. Highly recommended if you fancy something a bit mad for a change. Yes, only one flight a week. You don't want to miss it !
