Me and my brother went from down south to watch the last game of the season, when we got relegated v Wimbledon. I know we took thousands , but it was a bit different for us 2 getting on a train jam packed wit relegation rivals Coventry on their way to London to play Spurs. We didn't have any colours on, and kept pretty quiet, as the train was rammed and we were just stood around the toilet section.
Nowt happened in the end, but got some dirty looks when everyone got to the tube ticket machine, and everyone was getting tickets for seven sisters or whatever, and we were getting ones to selhurst. Fans were all looking over your shoulder to see what you had to press.
Not a funny story, but another example, that no matter if we had 10 or 15 thousand fans down there (or anywhere) there would be stragglers like us who had to travel with the other mob, and others as well when playing in London. On a side note my best mate is a Chelsea fan, and i brought him to Sheff Weds away (Phillips double) and he has always respected our numbers since that day. We had another cracking following. His dad is getting on, but knows all the names of their mob Hickey etc He also says Sunderland was always a hard place to come up to, and said he'd got a few cracks up there.
Strangely, the the dad said the worst he's felt at a game was only a few years back in the Champions league away to Shalke (I think) He said it wasn't off the Germans, but on a train to the game with other Chelsea fans. The tain was packed with Chelsea and their group of about 8 were split up a bit, and a bit of a row started between his son in law and another Chelsea fan. Then some woman about 40 came up and threatened them saying she was running Chelsea youth, and when the train stopped, he said about 40 lads all got off with her and were up for a row. After some talk it got left, but later in the game, he said they were getting pointed out by the same group dotted about. Strange
