I've met some truly mad Sunderland supporters .....

Cheers mate, that means a lot.

I'm just exchanging texts with a lad called Dave Ashfield who I used to stand in the Fulwell with.

He's gone from Seaburn to Oz to Hong Kong to Paris and is now in Devon ...... great lad and Sunderland mad.
Had some cracking nights out with the Perth mackems!

Did they have permed hair at the time. If so I witnessed the pair of them get stuck into some opposition fans (not sure what club) on the platform at Leeds when travelling back fro Man Citeh by train in 89. Lost 2-4

Only reason I can recollect this is because the 2 lads were definetly twins imo and I believe they got off at darlington.

Had Mrs with me, she thought it was all disgusting!!

The chuckle brothers?

It was 1-1 v City in 1988.

I was there it was York where we changed trains. They were Leeds fans going to Selby and they got off at York and came down the platform and the chuckle brothers were first in.

One of them got arrested.

Made the papers the next day.

I think its a generational thing. We are all 40+ and grew up with the Vauxies (slosher etc) before the Seaburn stuff captured us. They are brilliant lads but in the last few years the elephant in the room has been Feyenoord.. It's hard to overplay the association between the 2 teams now although obviously on here there's loads of dickheads jumping in. We have a year of nobodies arguing about the link followed by our annual association. We will see them again at Easter hopefully just before the Coolsingel.

I was on a flight to schipol on way to Abu Dhabi last November and was a good number going over for the Ajax game.

My cousin went over.

There you go Jacka.

There's plenty like this wanker, and the one who liked his post, who doubt me and call me a liar.

Sorry if I'm a bit touchy but this kind of shite is relentless ;)
Don't rise to his bait Reiver the bloke has some serious issue's.

It's just been our thing and I can't explain why. It was DB's 50th the other week and his best present was a feyennord badge.

Reiver clearly knows what he's talking about. And it is great to reminisce. But like I say the contemporary focus has moved to Rotterdam. That is the thing which is massively underplayed on here amongst all the windup merchants. It has become the new focus amongst the main Seaburn lads and many of the old Vauxies ie DB, JJ, DF etc. That is undeniable although it is great to revisit the good old days. It is not to downplay the efforts of decent lads like Hutchy etc to get all the old lads together but the focus has moved as the dickhead Bain will understand when he brings Ajax to town again. That will be Gary Bennett's testimonial x2; they are not welcome and will get a shock.

Once the bairns are older I will go over for a game or two.

Beautiful place.

Good thread this. Hopefully the usual suspects won't feel like they are missing the attention, and come to derail it as usual. Canny to hear of some funny old stories, and also some serious old stories. Things change obviously, but i only joined to have a bit crack with fellow SAFC fans whoever they are. Reiver always comes across as a canny bloke, who will go out of his way to help a fellow fan. Some others on here also, and i love to hear people sorting tickets, and way more in some cases, to help out others they don't even know. Class
Anything mentioned in the past is game as no one can get done, but be careful what some say about things in the future, as you know this board is watched. Like i say, cracking thread, but a thread is only made by the people posting on it.

We were on our way back from Millwall iirc and it hadn't been a great day.

It had been a long day with a bit of trouble, we were lost in London, tempers were fraying and we still had hours to get home ......
...... not only that we had lads to drop off in various places so the driver was getting cranky through lack of drink.

We pulled up to ask directions and Pete Crosby, @CrosbyFTM pay attention, jumped out and went into an all night barber.

After 10 minutes, of waiting, I was absolutely f***ing raging and just about to go in and drag him out.

But the door opened and Pete came out with his head shaved down the middle leaving just the bits around his ears .....
..... he looked like a baldy middle aged man and we all cried with laughing, I thought I was going to choke.

We laughed all the way home and as we dropped him outside his house, at 2am in Beeston, Pete said,
"Wish me luck lads, I told her I'd take her out for a meal when I got back!"

He's a character that's for sure is Pete. Known him years. I went to Holland pre season years ago with him for a friendly against Heronveen and to say the few days away with him in Amsterdam were entertaining would be a massive understatement.
Top top bloke

We will see what happens when Ajax come. They are not welcome and may find it slightly different to the last time.
Activate your conversations marra I'm trying to pm you.

Cheers mate.

Tbh there's no reason people would know me. I left the NE at 8 years old, never lived closer to Sunderland than 130 miles and never travelled from there.

There's an army of exiles who are virtually unknown, on here, but just as much 'the lads' as anyone else.

I don't give a shit if people know or believe me tbh.
rivs a cracking lad best thread in years on here ,,,,

It's the contributions that make any thread mate and some of these have been brilliant.

It's interesting to read how all of our experiences are so different but how they sometimes merge into the same one.

As virtually lifelong exiles we started off in our teens travelling on local service buses to Forest, Sheff Utd, etc and wondering who all these Sunderland lads were.

We didn't dare approach these wild people who obviously knew each other and seemed larger than life, lads like you no doubt.

So us young exiles travelled around independently and eventually got to know each other after which we'd catch the bus together.

My first trip North was around early 70's for a pre-season friendly/testimonial at Ayresome Park to play Boro ..... what an eye opener

It was absolutely madness.

We were in the paddocks with the bulk of the Sunderland support in a corner to our right, there seemed to be small fights breaking out all round the ground.

At half time the Sunderland lads erupted out of the paddocks and charged the Holgate End. We didn't want to be left behind so took off across the pitch with them. Most of the Boro lads scattered, some climbing out of the ground, some tried to stand their ground but we're swamped.

When the Holgate End had become 'ours' people we'd never met were laughing with us and slapping us on the back.

That was the first time we'd been acknowledged or accepted and it was as if we'd finally come home.
