I've met some truly mad Sunderland supporters .....

Never made contact with anyone from Slough tbh.

We came to know lads from Carlisle, Sheffield, Selby, West Midlands and the London lads.

At away matches we'd often try to get into a bigger group but sometimes it was better to slip away if we could.

It was always a big call on the tube Etc, whether to keep quiet in small groups of get together and make ourselves known :lol:

I know at least 4 from Slough who used to travel regular in 70s. All bar one had dads that were born in NE.
 
In fact, fuck it, I'll just tell you.

2 of them were staying at a hotel near Ladybay bridge and we bumped into them, we were all on the look out for tickets.

A group of Forest lads had got hold of away section tickets and were asking 4 times face value.

We asked them many they had and it was 11, so I asked to see them. The idiot handed them over, for me to look at, and we thanked them and just strolled off.

I gave the Selby pair a couple then walked off to the Notts County social club where the lads had organised a bar and food.

There were a few Sunderland without tickets so we dished the spares out for the cost of a pint each :lol:

We kept expecting some of the Forest lot, or the polis, to burst through the doors but ....... nowt!

Edit: yes the 2-2 game iirc ...... mad day all round.

It's funny how I don't recall the Slough lads?

Sheff & me travelled by train home & away together for years, more often just us 2. Between us we "knew" plenty of tribes - Beehive/Vauxies, colliery yackers ( my own family links), Peterlee Moorcock, Frankies, London lads, etc etc.

We certainly got in some scrapes & more than once either hid or got chased arl owa some god forsaken town/station.....tales we could tell ;-)

We had no lift but tickets we put an advert on Sun fm and two lads picked us up from penshaw and we helped them with two tickets. The day was mental and we had a bit frisk on the way to the ground. It was one of the days where I was steaming drunk and didn't care what I did. Things have changed a bit now

An obscure side line I know but as we crawled in to Brighton that morning (on Frankies I think) a local lad driving his pride and joy and with a very fit bird started giving it large as he sat alongside the bus. Just before the lights went green I managed to flick a live Regal Kingsize out of the skylight and straight through his sun roof on to the back seat. We were a good few junctions down the road before he finally noticed the smoke. It was a wonderful moment.

Approaching Villa Park I had a similar success. Another local was showing us how hard he was by running alongside the bus screaming obscenities. We were doing about 5 mile an hour and the driver had his side window slid open. I'd had a bad cold that week and dredged up a massive greeny. I leant over the driver and spit it straight in to the skins wide open mouth. His pursuit ended in an instant, I'll never forget the look of abject horror. It was beautiful.

The modern game can't compete, I miss such times.

In 70s we often used to run into a blonde lass calle Ruth who used to get on at Nottingham/Grantham. A real looker and a character. I know Mansfiled is in that vicinity, wonder if you have any recollections

Anyone remember when Spennymoor had The Nutters Bus? Only lasted about three seasons but they were tremendous. We had limited range for the last one though as the driver was on a curfew.

By far the oldest coach in any away car park it should have been in Beamish. We had 80 on for Cardiff away, 30 had to get off for it to make it up a motorway ramp. The back windows had curved glass, beautiful and irreplaceable. Some twat put a brick through one as we pulled away from Charlton, the pursuit of the offender was immense. Having boarded again the driver pulled up at a local market and we filled the isle with rubbish bags full of cabbages and stuff. They were thrown out at 40 mph toward any bus stand with a Charlton fan on it. It also had an old pump action fire extinguisher we'd all piss in and aim at anyone not Sunderland.

There were so many complaints by official supporters club bus drivers for mass mooning. Whenever one approached the driver would order 'arses to the windows lads'. They never got him banned but he got time for other offences eventually and the party sadly ended.

It's interesting that you should mention having a knife pulled on you inside the ground because we did, I wonder if it was the same incident.

It was halfway up the terrace just to the right of the goal as you looked at the pitch. This Chelsea idiot pulled out quite a large knife and shouted 'come on then you Northern basatards'.

We were a bit shocked and thinking what was best to do when a Sunderland lad in a full length leather coat volleyed him straight in the knackers.
He immediately hit the deck and took a few more kicks from other people before the polis took him out.

The thing I remember most was that there was no expression on the Sunderland lad's face and he turned straight back round to watch the game after the kick.

He was standing on his own anarl which also stuck in my mind.

I know of her but I reckon @Pedro knew her well, he's from Nottingham and posts on here ...... let's see what he has to say.

I used to run a bus from Mansfield but we eventually ran out of companies who'd take us, we had some bad luck with windows being put out etc.

I then met up with the Notts lads, cracking bunch, like Pedro who introduced me to other people like Dave Fair's.

When I went to France I lost touch with quite a few but I'm sure they'll know Ruth.

Did you know GC from Nottingham he would be 49 now but sadly died around 3 years ago

Whenever she got on train was always by herself. It was evident she was quite well known amongst travelling SAFC fans. Haven't seen her since those days, just wondered whether if she got hitched up to anyone on here

I remember that bus :lol:

We'd have a few pints after away matches, at Bristol or somewhere, then pass that bus chugging along about 60 miles later.

We never knew who it was but we always used to joke that they'd just make it back for the next home game ;)
