People noticeable by their absence from being at the England games in Canada:

1. That England band. Thank God they are not there. Hopefully they full into the 'women's football is crap, makes the goals smaller, a conference side could beat them, the keepers are awful' camp and haven't even turned their tellies on. Long may it remain so.

2. Prince William. President of the FA, should be there Wdnesday IMHO, he would if it was the blokes. Also should be visibly supporting Canada (the whole country) as its future king for putting on a good tournament.

Just seen the goals, that first one was brilliant.

It was, mate. Still had a lot to do. Made space for herself nicely and cracking finish, although the keeper isn't positioned particularly well. She hasn't hit it right in the corner so the keeper should really be getting there. But, good finish all the same. Thought she had really good match all round.

Class game. Class performance. Well played lasses.

I was wondering though - does the manager go in the changing room or not??

Perk of the job, mate. They all get in the steam tub together after the match to wind down. Although the manager looks like he could be gay to me with his cropped head shaved at the sides.

"No Surrender to the IRA" remains absent, and there have been no reports of gangs of women hooligans making a nuisance of themselves.

This Women's World Cup has been more entertaining than any men's World Cup since 1990. When did you last see four quarter finals when each side were actually playing and trying to create and entertain rather than just stop the other side playing?

Last summer. Arguably the most entertaining World Cup ever.

No diving and rolling around like fannies on the floor either.

THIS X INFINITY!!

Mind, last night's game was like watching Sunderland. Under pressure to defend a one goal lead in a tight game? Whatever you do, don't pass it around and keep possession and wear the other team down. Oh no, you've got to welly it aimlessly forward time and time again, only for the opposition to come right back and put you under pressure again. And again. And again.

Rather like Sunderland they are playing to their strengths - and what's wrong with that? Not the most technically gifted but strong defence and great team work. Unlike the Men's team, it must be said.

Tough game now, mind.

I think we have a great chance against the Japanese. They are very one paced and do not have many options when they need to change their approach to the game. England are proving to be extremely good when it comes to analyzing and adapting to overcome the opposition's tactics. I think they will select a side to play a style that will highlight Japan's weaknesses, and will be training to exploit specific weaknesses in the Japanese side. I think the US would be an interesting game in the final, but the Germans were extremely lucky/given their traditional FIFA leg-up against the French. I think the English are the most talented side, with the most depth in the squad and with largely interchangeable first team line ups. With the exception of Bardsley, we do not appear to have been overly attached to any one player and have selected the best fit for each match. Early strong performers such as Fran Kirby who has not done much wrong, has been replaced with the likes of Scott and Taylor who have come in and proven to be a likely better fit for the particular games they have arrived in. I do not anything any of the remaining sides have such good management and tactical sense in their teams.

Japan have one massive strength that I've not seen in the tournament thus far, and that is their passing. They're clinical as hell and should give England serious trouble just getting possession. That said, England can do it, especially after having beat Canada on their home turf.

I would argue with you on that. It was probably one of the most manipulated and pointless World Cups I have ever seen.
This. Absolute tedium from start to finish.

Well done the lasses. I was worried remembering the last time an England team was 2-0 up in a world cup quarter final, but then Canada didn't have Gerd Muller playing for them.

Japan are very beatable, and either of the other two in the final would be brilliant.

From what I can gather, a few of the Japanese lasses have played in the English league and found it difficult because of the physical nature of our game. So, a few crunching tackles, the odd dig when the refs not looking and generally let 'em know they're in a game before they get going.

We beat Japan 2-0 in the last Womens WC. Only team to do so. The way the teams match up I'd rather be playing Japan than Germany or the USA.

Jon Herdman. The faux jordy jordy nayshun member swearing in an interview.

Classy to the end.
Interviewed before the tournament before people knew he was from
Consett - no accent.

Gets a bit of publicity and people learn where he's from - professional Geordie accent.
