Why do Villa hate the Mags?


When the takeover happened I was talking to my Bristol City supporting brother in law and I asked him “as our nearest and not so dearest we obviously think it’s an absolutely disgusting turn of events but what does the average fan of other clubs think”. His reply was “to be honest we’ve never liked them, they’ve got a sense of entitlement that they are so much better than everyone else and we should all be bowing down to them”

My Villa supporting mates hate the Mags deluded behavior, in particular the belief that supporters of other clubs love the 'toon army' ( :rolleyes: ) as they are such great fans, great banter, great support and somehow think they are everybody's 'second team' :rolleyes::eek:

Had my home shirt on and after the match I was stopped by dozens - I mean LOADS - of people who congratulated me and said 'I'm Villa, and we hate the Mags'.
Obviously I didn't disagree with them, but each Villa fan said the same thing. (The festival is near Brum, so there was a lot of Villa about.)
Is there some back story on this rivalry?

Also stopped by loads of other fans who all said along the lines of how pleased they were for us, because they like our fans. Which is nice to know.
Ended up spending an hour or so with a Charlton fan reliving the 98 final over a few pints.

Most people do. Villa were just in the right place at the right time.

Shocked the Mags as they still believed everyone loved them because they were Geordies.
 
I think they probably rub teams like Everton and Villa up because they go on and on about how they’re a massive team, when both Villa and Everton in their own right are huge themselves.

I was at a random Villa game at St James as a student in 2015/2016 ish? And it all booted off after the game with the two fans fighting each other

They are the most entitled fans in football.

I do think Everton hate them mind. I dont know if it pre dates pickford but they do hate them now

West Ham and Chelsea are supposed to hate us as well. Never seen any bother when at SB, or Upton Park. Plenty on here appear to dislike Newcastle. Dispute that I managed to attend games at Roker, and SOL, for best part of 40 years. Never once came to blows.
Worked in Carlisle many years ago. They definitely don’t like Newcastle. Weren’t keen on anyone to be honest.

The West Ham fans i know (& i know quite a few) still remember the petrol bomb incident to this day & hate the Mags cos of that.
 
Who's MP would stand up in Parliament and plead with the Government to OK the Saudi takeover. Stomach churning.
