Just got back from Bearded Theory festival, top laugh.
Had my home shirt on and after the match I was stopped by dozens - I mean LOADS - of people who congratulated me and said 'I'm Villa, and we hate the Mags'.
Obviously I didn't disagree with them, but each Villa fan said the same thing. (The festival is near Brum, so there was a lot of Villa about.)
Is there some back story on this rivalry?

Also stopped by loads of other fans who all said along the lines of how pleased they were for us, because they like our fans. Which is nice to know.
Ended up spending an hour or so with a Charlton fan reliving the 98 final over a few pints.

Fact is, nee one likes them but they tend to think they’re everyone’s 2nd team/city when in hindsight they are normally a bunch of fat smelly bald gravy gobbling bunch of scruffs with a superiority complex

Everton has been a ‘thing’ for decades and a violent thing as well. No idea how it started, or why. 80’s, 90’s and well into 2000’s remember there being bother whenever we played them.
Villa just seems to be a ‘banter’ thing.

I’ve got mates around here who are fairly evenly divided between the big four North West clubs and surprisingly Bolton. The Bolton fans are not arsed about them in the slightest. But all the rest dislike them because of this self appointed best fans in the world shite. Especially because they are all old enough to remember the crowds pre Keegan. What makes them a better fan than anyone else is what gets on people’s tits.

One of my mates is a Villa fan and he’s mentioned how much they hate the mags.

Basically they relegated the mags and the mags blamed them for their own relegation and since then they’ve hated Newcastle.

Must have passed me by although I am not a Gremlin / NME fanboy.
West Ham and Chelsea are supposed to hate us as well. Never seen any bother when at SB, or Upton Park. Plenty on here appear to dislike Newcastle. Dispute that I managed to attend games at Roker, and SOL, for best part of 40 years. Never once came to blows.
Worked in Carlisle many years ago. They definitely don’t like Newcastle. Weren’t keen on anyone to be honest.
