You say black people should exercise dramatic measures, they're doing that already. The statue itself has been vandalised with "black lives matter", there has been violence at rallies, people killed, American is a really, tense, divisive country right now, whether you believe it or not, that statue means alot to some people. Taking it down for some, is like American is erasing part of their beliefs.

These white supremacists, now can justify their marches and actions with the statue removal issue excuse, it gives them something to be angry about.

I have to say, some of the quality of posts on display on this thread, have really raised the bar today, and this is just one of them.. we may not all agree with each others opinions but, at least we all know what is right, and what is wrong.

Agreed. With an obvious exception early on in the thread, it's been a really interesting discussion even where posters don't agree, without the descent into the usual.

The way I see it is you have an external force trying to bring change and that isn't going to work... if they didn't make it about race it would never have been about race, the true racists are those making this an issue of race in my opinion.

As long as we continue to keep the quality at the level it is currently at then, i don't see it being a problem, let us all not revert into the normal level of debate, as witnessed a good few times on the PF.. The quality on display shows that the SMB.. can go up a few levels higher. and to talk on these issues it should be maintained at these levels

You're right mate, I've enjoyed it, myself and @Cockney Mackem have been slugging it out all afternoon but its been a sensible, intellectual and respectful debate without the insults, which leads to good threads often been closed.

Just about putting your perspective across without being condescending or insulting really. I wouldn't be a knob to someone in a real life conversation, so I wont do it behind a keyboard.

Mind you... We're all only being polite as Sunderland won, if we'd have lost - Hell on!

It really is.

I had a look on Stormfront earlier to see what they made of the attack, and couldn't help click on the sticky regarding the use of swastika avatars. The general view was that their use would deter potential new followers of white nationalism due to the "baggage" of those kind of symbols that people won't be able to see past. Their thinking is people should be able to make their own minds up about National Socialism.

I honestly don't know how these people can live with so much callousness and bitterness in their hearts.
