What will happen to motorbikes?

Bike riders tend to be more involved in actually riding their bikes and concentrate more than your average car driver.

1 They have less distractions - passengers, radio, sat nav
2 Risk - clearly you are more vulnerble on a bike and therefore more aware of potential danger - threat perception
3 Enthusiasts - bikers really like bikes, buy bike mags, watch bikes on TV, go to meetings and bike events

These are just some of the reasons why bikers make better road users.

Car drivers on the other hand

1 Have loads of distractions
2 Have a feeling of safety in their metal box
3 Don't care about cars like bikers care about bikes

Some car drivers really like cars but they tend to be worse than the small minority of bikers who, while clearly in the wrong on occaision, bring other bikers into disrepute.

And car drivers fit noisy anti social pipes to their cars as well as bikers.

It's wrong to say bikers love speed, if that was true they'd spend all their time on the motorway, speeding. But they don't they love the slower winding roads where carving through a series of corners and hitting every apex spot on is far more rewarding.
but if you’re on a 60 road, and you overtake someone doing 60, you’re a bell, whether you do that on 4 wheels or 2.
Or 1. ;)

The same people will tell you most fatalities are a car drivers fault .Speed is a factor in accidents but the vast majority of it goes unpunished and luckily has no effect The Speed is an attraction for a bike rider but its way more complex than just speed .They arent riding to Alston on a bike because it was their only transport ,theres a small gang of delivery, commuter type riders but most do it for pleasure .Its not an entitlement to speed, everyone speeds ,more cars than bikes and take their chance .Id argue like the overtaking if the road was wider and the car had the turn of speed and brakes of a bike car drivers would be speeding all day everyday .Its about opportunity . I think most road users respect that there needs to be rules and limits but then cross that line as it suits where they see it as okay . I Drive and ride at a speed what suits where i am,who's around ,road surface etc

So if you get caught doing 80 in a 60 you’ll say in court “I drive at a speed that suits me”? Interesting. I hope for your sake you don’t get caught or get involved in an accident but I have very little sympathy for bikers, and I’ve had close family killed whilst riding.

No ,you offer no form of defence as there isn't any .You take your fine and points . Ive rode bikes constantly since 1986 and never had any points on two wheels .All my various sp30s have been in cars .Ive never had an accident expect a slow speed bumper to bumper in town in the snow and thats no bullshit . The last bit is a bit strange ,its fact that most accidents involving bikes are car drivers faults and yet you have no sympathy . Your little mad speedy nutcase wheely addicts vision isn't the real world of life on two wheels

Despite the DfT‘s own data showing bikers are some of the worst offenders when it comes to speeding.

You're just repeating yourself . ..."Some" sounds a bit vague

If its not directly affecting accident stats its a stat on its own.

Bikes are the same as pedestrians .If they get in a fight with a car or bus they'll get hurt .Thats just how it is and isn't their fault in most cases

Speeding is a massive part of every road users day.Bikes are a very small part of that gang

Just read one there ,57 yr old bloke in hospital ,wiped out by a car at a junction .Car sped off ,looks like it was stolen

I've always found it strange why people want bikes banned because they come off worse in an accident that usually isn't their fault. Why punish the victim? I'd be interested on what they think should be done to victims of rape or old people being mugged. Chastity belts for the ladies, curfews for the elderly, bans for bikes.

I saw one of these today. Zero Motorcycles A blue one exactly the same as in the link. I was in my van going in the opposite direction so didn't have a chance to talk to the rider. £11,500 is pretty cheap for an electric motorcycle, they used to be double the price of I.C.E. bikes.

I get why people don’t want to ride or be pillion on a bike, it’s personal choice and may not be just because they are a massive fanny. However, I don’t get the hate, why the hate?

People like to hate. If not bikes, cyclists then horses etc. If your stuck in a traffic bound car and see someone who is less restricted then envy takes over. This is exacerbated by the fact that bikers have enough disposable income to buy what is an expensive luxury hence further envy in those who cannot do so.

If I see someone in a fantastic car I don’t feel envy I actually like seeing fast or luxurious cars.

Same goes for fast bikes it’s exciting.

But I accept a lot of people don’t care about cars and don’t like bikes. That’s fine too.

It’s great we all like different things.

Having no bike and a tiny penis must be tough for some.

this is a good show, they take old cars and make them electric

I detest the very concept of putting electric motors into certain types of classic cars, namely cars which are as desirable or recognisable for their sound as for their styling, performance or luxury. Any Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Shelby Cobra, even my own humble MGB GT have distinctive exhaust notes that would be lost by the installation of an electric motor. In fact I would guarantee that no owner of any exotic sports car would even consider doing it as it would remove the car's character and also destroy its value for that reason. I was shocked when "Wheeler Dealers" put an electric motor into a Maserati Biturbo.

No petrolhead would install an electric motor in their car.

I also believe that come the fateful day when non-cherished ICE cars become obsolete, there will be legal exceptions made for cars and commercial vehicles that are in good condition and over a certain age, i.e existing and future classics, and petrol and diesel fuel will be available from niche suppliers but will probably be pretty expensive due to small scale of specialist production due to very small demand. It may be that owners of these cars will have to convert their engines to burning alternative fuels such as ethanol or LPG.

Definitely, put an electric motor and batteries in a London taxi, not an Aston Martin db6 that will hardly ever be driven

Not sure on the official stats etc but i would say 75% of accidents with bikes ive been to are actually the riders fault which surprised me but thats just me. Huge amount of bumps go unreported and go through claims
