Unpopular opinions you have

Answering a question with a question ? yes I have read it, comparable to down and out in London and Paris, not as interesting as the diary of a nobody, in my opinion - care to answer the question ?

Life isn't fair, how would reading a book change that ?

I believe that most people only take a passing interest in politics (maybe less so at the moment, but in general) and don't properly understand what i believe to be the massive potential the human race has for advancement when people work together. I believe that book is the door opener into understanding very basic socialist principles, and if everyone was to lean towards them, the world would be a better, fairer place.
All TV soaps should be cancelled with immediate effect.

its the dumbing down of society. along with the yearly cycle of i'm a celeb - x factor - love island - britains got talent - i'm a celeb - x factor - love island - britains got talent-i'm a celeb - x factor - love island - britains got talent - i'm a celeb - x factor - love island - britains got talent-i'm a celeb - x factor - love island - britains got talent - i'm a celeb - x factor - love island - britains got talent

this angle has never changed. It’s just easier and more wall-to-wall now with advances in technology giving 24/7/365 access to a worldwide vat of pointless shit. It doesn’t happen by accident.

In the past it was mythology, religion, ‘education’, money doesn’t buy you happiness, fairytales, people ALWAYS f***ing up their three wishes, know your place, etc., etc., etc.

Only Fools and Horses was shite and David Jason is one of the most overrated actors I have ever come across.
Couldn’t agree more. Except I’ve never come across David Jason.
Jason was groomed by Ronnie Barker in the same way George Cole was by Alistair Sim. He almost couldn’t fail but he gave it a good shot. ‘A sharp intake of breath’ anyone. Complete and utter dogshit.

Fair enough, but I think you're aware that there will always be those who want an unfair share of resources and have the power to take them, and there will always be a set of people who think the world owes them a living and will do nothing to provide for themselves, so unfair by default

ok maybe i should rephrase it to 'a more fair country'

and for what its worth, i really don't see the connection between Down and Out.. and the Ragged Trousered Philanthropists. D&O is just a memoir based on the lives of people living in poverty, i never found that it was political. where as TRTP immediately altered my political outlook more than any other single thing has

and the book you mentioned, i've never read it although its a comedy isnt it? i've just ordered it for £2 off ebay on you recommendation so it better be good :)

I thought TRTP was a comedy too :) - To be honest I found it hard going and didn't really enjoy reading it - To me, D&O describes real poverty, as apposed to the comparative poverty quoted today, although Ive no doubt absolute poverty still exists - the diary of a nobody is quite humorous but paints a picture of how we used to live back in the day

i look forward to reading it. i guess we are on the opposite ends of the political compass if you didn't take anything more from TRTP. you must be hard headed
