The Pep myth

2021/22 - again favourites, most expensive squad left in the competition, give it until the morning to find out who the manager and players blame this time.
One ready made excuse on the match thread already. Apparently it's because the away goals rule isn't used anymore.

It says something about how good he is that when he doesn't win the champions league he's held up as a fraud or shite or whatever.

No other coaches are held to the standards of "win the champions league or else"

Ah, no worries. Hopefully Pep will have been informed of that one ready for the media. I wonder if his own players will blame him like 2 years ago.
Still a class coach. So is Ancelotti.
Class coach, all time great, undeniable. But continues to fail to meet his main objective and goal when brought in as manager. Unlimited funds available, whole 11 bought, 50m every position, no European title.

Ancelotti, Klopp even Tuchel have done it, let’s just wait for the excuse tomorrow.

Usually when you have the best resources to reach a goal, objective in any walk of life, you are deemed a failure when you can’t make it happen.

Edit: he is not a failure, his career is not a failure, he is an all time great manager, but his objective as manager of Man City has been a failure. They already had a PL with Mancini and Pellegrini. They want this cup so bad and he can’t produce.

True enough. Alot of managers have done it under tougher conditions. Including Roberto Di Matteo.

There's some great insight into him in the book "Barca" by Simon Kuper.

The book itself is an excellent read which also charts their downfall, and there's a large section dedicated to Guardiola in terms of what he did at Barcelona and how, ultimately, he and his players burnt each other out after 4 years.

Won 9 out of 12 league titles he's managed for. Could soon be 10 out of 13
He's won 9 out of 19 domestic cup competitions he's entered.

He's won two champions league titles out 13.

Not a bad return for the resources he's had. I'd be surprised if anybody had ever had a better ratio of competitions entered vs trophies won when managing for 10 or more seasons. Even at elite clubs who are the best in their league.

No doubt a great coach, but would he go to say Man Utd and build it back from where they are now? The answer is probably no or do what Wenger did at Arsenal?

Look at the jobs he has had, Barca with a golden generation, bayern absolutley dominent in the league, Man City with unlimited money.

As I say a great coach, but in my eyes nothing more special than Klopp, Jose, anchelotti etc

Why would he need to? He's above that.

Would Messi at his peak sign for Southampton or Everton to make them great and see if he can do it in an average team?

The best go to the best

A better record than Ferguson whose record is seemingly beyond criticism in Britain.

Because that is the sole reason he was employed. Differing coaches had won the Prem, they want the CL
