The Pep myth

been here a while marra

I’m all up for debate but someit going on with that poster I think we can agree!

anyway aye

 Has to be like

Clearly doesn’t like me even though I’ve never ever replied to him before.
I noticed he's been enjoying the new dislike button a fair bit recently. Absolutely obsessed with you.

Won 9 out of 12 league titles he's competed for.
2 champions leagues.
Stacks of domestic cups.

Improved every club he's been at. His teams play the best football (in my opinion).

I think there's an argument for him being one of the greatest ever managers.

The stuff about him over thinking things and getting it wrong in big games only seems to happen when he loses big games. It's a valid argument, but never gets brought up when his sides win with similar tinkering.

Don't think there is any sort of myth though. He's absolutely outstanding as a manager and one of the best.
If it was easy what he does everybody would do it

Also built quite possibly the best club side the game has ever seen, almost exclusively using players brought through the academy.

And in terms of improving players, look at Sterling. He turned Walker not only into a very good full back, but also into a superb right sided CB. KDB has gone from strength to strength under him. Look at what he's done with Mahrez, or Bernardo Silva.

Blokes a motherfucking genius

I’d actually love to see him build a club up and come thru the leagues, i meen not even a Hartlepool but maybe a Salford where he’d still have a head start

Just funny the way he goes on like anyone else is an idiot for having an opinion which differs to his. Also think it’s funny to suggest the job he has done as “absolutely unbelievable.”

What Mancini achieved, was absolutely unbelievable.

Pep already has two CLs.
Oh aye, of course he does... splatted Fergie in both finals too, a point of comparison I should have included.

Though when Fergie used his noggin not his ego and parked the Vidic-Ferdinand-Van De Saar bus home and away in 2008, he got one over him. So 2-1 in the head-to-heads, really. Should have done it in the finals too. As Mourinho showed, it was the only way you could beat that Barca team, probably the best club team ever. Certainly in my lifetime.

You're probably right, over the last 20 years or so. Its almost impossible to draw comparisons with years gone by.
Players are technically much better now, and fitter and have much better facilities. They are even more professional in their outlook with diet etc.
Some of us, of a certain vintage still remember other dominant teams of their era though.
Paisleys Liverpool were completely dominant and an absolute pleasure to watch. Not saying they were better, but of their time, they were immense.

And Bob Paisley was from Hetton😉😉😉

Rijkaard was Barcelona manager then.

Here’s the end of every CL run for the last 10 years

2013/14 With a Bayern side who were champions of Europe, got battered 0-4 at home in the CL and knocked out.

2014/15 With a Bayern side still full of CL winners, battered 3-0 by Barca in the 1st leg and knocked out of the CL

2015/16 Knocked out in the semis again - 3 years with an inherited CL winning squad and didn’t make 1 final

2016/17 Brought in by City to win the CL and was dumped out in the last 16 by Monaco

2017/18 Beaten hone and away by Liverpool, 3-0 away and was accused of ‘overthinking’ and then beaten at home when playing a 3313 formation that he had never used before, again overthinking

2018/19 knocked out by Spurs in quarter finals - says it all. Again his defensive setup massively questioned.

2019/20 Knocked out once again in the quarters, by the mighty Lyon this time, where he used a random 3 at the back formation and was widely blamed for the failure, including by his players in leaked reports

2020/21 - first final in ~10 years. Went in as strong favourites, Decided to not play a CDM for the first time in memory, got beaten and blamed by loads for the side he picked
2021/22 - again favourites, most expensive squad left in the competition, give it until the morning to find out who the manager and players blame this time.
