I know absolutly nothing about basketball but I am going to give this a watch.
Cool little fact about Horace Grant. He wore goggles the first season but had his vision corrected after about a year. He kept wearing the goggles because he'd had so many positive letters from parents as their kid with glasses looked up to him.
Not heard anything bad about him and I've watched plenty 90s players interviewed. Did all the dirty work, nowt flash and got little fame or credit. That’s great that. I thought Horace Grant come across really well in the doc.
ive no idea about the politics, workings of NBA teams but I’ll never understand why you would just dismantle that team !?
Thing about American sports with the draft and salary cap, the worst thing you can possibly do is be mediocre and have good but not great players on decent contracts. You can't afford to go and get the top players as you don't have room under the salary cap, and you don't have top draft picks to get the best young players.
If you aren't going to challenge then the best thing to do is tank and get yourself a high draft pick, trade some of you players away for prospects and/or picks. You can re-build an entire roster in a couple of years.
Good point. It’s completely different to here which clearly isn’t a bad thing. I like it and really keeps things level.
Regarding the salary cap, I presume it must be pretty high though looking at their earnings ?
NBA it went over $100m a couple of years ago, you can go over a pay a 'luxury tax' to the league. You see teams getting very creative in restructuring contracts and trading high contracted players away. You sometimes see 'salary dumps' where teams trade a player they don't want on a big contract and give something else away so another team will take him. Literally paying someone to take your player.
But similar with the draft system I suppose ? The bit where Scottie Pippen was drafted by one team immediately went to the Bulls. Always loopholes I presume.
I like the whole draft / salary cap, it is strange though how a full on capitalist country’s major sport operates on such socialist ways ( another poster pointed that out earlier in thread )
That kind of thing is not that uncommon across American sports, you see a few trades on draft day.
If this has whetted the appetite for basketball docs there's some good ones on ESPN BT Sport's 30 for 30 series....
Lakers v Celtics Best Of Enemies - Three parter covering the Magic Johnson v Larry Bird rivalry.
Jordan Rides The Bus - Michael Jordan's season in baseball.
Rodman For Better Or Worse - Self explanatory!
Reggie Miller v The Knicks
Plus loads of good ones about college ball, should be able to find them online if you look.
Are those 30 for 30 documentaries on Netflix or amazon ?That kind of thing is not that uncommon across American sports, you see a few trades on draft day.

Would also add the Bad Boys Pistons doc as well. Fascinated by that team and era of basketball, such a clash of raw skill and out and out aggression. That kind of thing is not that uncommon across American sports, you see a few trades on draft day.
