The Fishing Thread

Just back from a Pike fishing trip on the Broads.
After monster Pike and beaten by nature. The worst week on record with the worst “salt surge” they have experienced. Down to a full moon evidently.
Never seen so many dead fish as we moved the boat trying to locate the fish.
Lad with us caught one of 22lb and my biggest only 10lb 4oz.

What an experience and beautiful place though and will be going back.
Wildlife incredible and spotted my first Bittern, Crane and Bearded Tit. Plenty of Marsh Harriers and one Hen Harrier.

Lovely sunset.

Salt surge? I'm guessing this is saltwater pushing up past its normal limits due to the massive tides this week?

Correct Mate. Evidently it’s the curse of the full moon.
We were on a boat trying to beat the salt. Sad seeing so many dead fish.

What a place though, no rosds or people and just us on a small boat travelling and stopping to fish.

Aye its lush. I had a rare coarse fishing trip to the broads and fished Neatishead. Got a few Rudd, or were they roach I can’t remember.

Lovely just cruising into a broad, dropping the mud weight and having a chuck.

Live baiting not everyone’s favourite.
First day fishing my Mate lost a big one on dead eel section. The head and mouth out of water and it was definitely over 20 lb. Regretted using barbless hooks with a big bait. The salt water then caught us up 😞
Desperate to go again.🎣

Fish are piling up at the moment mate, got a freezer full.

Cracking fish that.

I got a little whiting the other day. About 7 inches long. I didn’t weigh the poor little thing but at least it went back safely.

Got it on a two hook flapper with size 1 hooks and tiny little fish (whiting) baits.

It seems they are cannibals.

Small fish all over at the minute.
I don’t Mate.
I just couldn’t add another method and target fish. Looks cracking though.
I did for a good few years and fished mostly small waters.

I loved tying my own flies and have a tackle box with loads of hares ears, herl, foam, legs you name it and loads of wire and hackles and all the tools too.

But I’m back sea fishing now.

Stinking the house out and taking up a full drawer in the freezer with worm, crab, Bluey, cart, mackerel and mussel.
