The Fishing Thread

The glorious 16th ls looming.🎣
Did you ever read or have a copy of MrCrabtree’s fishing book?
It was my go to as a kid. I definitely have it in the loft. Used to look at those illustrations and think of them whilst fishing the mid Thames in search of the species they were targeting.
I did have a picture book of angling, was that Mr Crabtree,a bloke and a kid?I lived on the bank of the wear so my favourite fishing author was Hugh Falkus, his target species was sea-trout,I think the wear still is the best river in England for them, you used to sit on the riverbank in the dark and listen to the salmon jumping.
Yeah using lures. I love topwaters, favourites being either the Patchinko or my Yo-zuri popper (which are discontinued now). If the waters coloured, I'll be using softbaits
Yo-Zuri I remember it was Harris Angling who first imported them, they did an incredible full colour Lure catalogue 20 odd years ago.

Always great to see how you Salty lads are doing. Keep posting mate and tight lines.
Slim pickings round these parts untill the summer species arrive in numbers.

The winter cod are long gone and those days freezing catching whiting every cast too.

I have a bag full of lures and some light braid (J Braid) loaded on one of my smaller fixed spool reels and I’m getting out there next week.

But I’m going to hedge my bets and take some light tackle and some bait.

I’ll stick the bait out then work the lures.

Loved that book as a kid, unfortunately my copy is long gone 😥

It was magical.
You’ve made me think about finding it. I also have 4 completed binders of the fisherman’s handbook in mint condition in the loft.
Always makes you smile when you look back at the methods adopted at the time and where angling is now.

Talk about freezing.
We have 18 blokes down from Norwich today and tomorrow fishing the reservoir in a match.

Watched one fall in the water this Morning as his front platform leg went down the next step. It was slow motion watching him land in the water with platform, rods the lot following him in.
The match hadn’t started at that point. On a positive he didn’t lose any gear and got out.
Then the piss taking started 🤣🎣
